  1. 21. Laser diode systems for photodynamic therapy and medical diagnostics

    Author : Eva Samsöe Andersen; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quasi-phasematching; photodynamic therapy; laser-induced fluorescence; medical laser systems.; Histology; cytochemistry; histochemistry; tissue culture; Histologi; Laserteknik; Laser technology; cytokemi; histokemi; vävnadskultur; Diagnostik; Diagnostics; second harmonic generation; pulsed lasers; spatial filtering; Diode lasers; optical feedback; Fysicumarkivet A:2004:Samsöe Andersen;

    Abstract : This work concerns techniques for improvement of the coherence properties of diode lasers so that they may be used in two specific medical applications: (Interstitial) photodynamic therapy (PDT) and laser-induced fluorescence diagnostics. In the first application, spatial coherence is crucial, since the treatment light should be delivered through relatively thin optical fibers to optimize treatment and to facilitate minimally invasive treatment. 2. 22. Towards Single-Ion Detection and Single-Photon Storage in Rare-Earth-Ion-Doped Crystals

    Author : Mohammed Alqedra; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Single-ion detection; microcavities; quantum memory; rare-earth-ion-doped crystals; Fysicumarkivet A:2022:Alqedra;

    Abstract : Solid materials doped with rare-earth ions are considered an attractive platform for quantum information applications. One of the main reasons for this is the exceptionally long optical and hyperfine coherence times of the 4fn states, due to the shielding provided by the outer lying 5s and 5p electrons. READ MORE

  3. 23. Further development of NICE-OHMS : – an ultra-sensitive frequency-modulated cavity-enhanced laser-based spectroscopic
 technique for detection of molecules in gas phase

    Author : Patrick Ehlers; Ove Axner; Joakim Bood; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NICE-OHMS; Frequency Modulation; Cavity Enhancement; Molecular Spectroscopy; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectroscopy, NICE-OHMS, is a laser-based spectroscopic detection technique that comprises the concepts of frequency modulation (FM, for reduction of 1/f-noise by detecting the signal at a high frequency) and cavity enhancement (CE, for a prolongation of the optical path length) in a unique way. Properly designed, this gives the technique an intrinsic immunity against the frequency-to-noise conversion that limits many other types of CE techniques. READ MORE

  4. 24. Photonic Techniques for Real-Time Analog-to-Digital Conversion

    Author : Johan Stigwall; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tunable THz generation; photonic time-stretch; photonic sampling; Photonic analog-to-digital conversion; optical signal processin; photonic binary encoding; microwave photonics; photonic thresholding;

    Abstract : All-electronic analog-to-digital conversion (ADC) technology is limited by the timing accuracy and inherent speed of semiconductor materials. Photonic techniques, however, can potentially enable real-time ADC at a considerably wider bandwidth, higher sample rate and/or resolution, thanks to the availability of extremely accurate optical clocks and the immense bandwidth of optical systems. 5. 25. Dicke narrowing and speed-dependent effects in dispersion signals : Influence on assessment of concentration and spectral parameters by noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectrometry

    Author : Junyang Wang; Ove Axner; Livio Gianfrani; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dicke narrowing; Speed-dependent effects; Dispersion signals; Noise-immune cavity-enhanced optical heterodyne molecular spectrometry NICE-OHMS ; accuracy;

    Abstract : Laser spectroscopic techniques have, during the last decades, demonstrated an extraordinary capability for sensitive detection of molecular constituents in gas phase. Since spectra from such techniques constitute unique and characteristic signatures for each type of species, these techniques enable investigations of molecular structures as well as detection of the presence of species in a gas mixture.
