16. Simulation and analysis of radiation from runaway electrons
Abstract : Electron runaway constitutes one of the primary threats to future tokamak fusion reactors such as ITER. Successful prevention and mitigation of runaways relies on the development of theoretical models which accurately describe the dynamics of runaway electrons, and these models must in turn be validated in experiments. 17. Solving the quantum scattering problem for systems of two and three charged particles
Abstract : A rigorous formalism for solving the Coulomb scattering problem is presented in this thesis. The approach is based on splitting the interaction potential into a finite-range part and a long-range tail part. In this representation the scattering problem can be reformulated to one which is suitable for applying exterior complex scaling. READ MORE

18. Methane oxidation over palladium oxide. From electronic structure to catalytic conversion
Abstract : Understanding how catalysts work down to the atomic level can provide ways to improve chemical processes on which our contemporary economy is heavily reliant. The oxidation of methane is one such example, which is important from an environmental point of view. READ MORE

19. Aspects of the Duality between Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory and String Theory
Abstract : This thesis deals with three topics related to the Ads/CFT correspondence. In Paper I, solutions describing the geometry of fractional D1-branes of Type IIB string theory are presented. The running coupling constant is computed on the gauge theory side. READ MORE

20. Gravitational perturbations in plasmas and cosmology
Abstract : Gravitational perturbations can be in the form of scalars, vectors or tensors. This thesis focuses on the evolution of scalar perturbations in cosmology, and interactions between tensor perturbations, in the form of gravitational waves, and plasma waves. READ MORE
