  1. 1. Genetic analyses of multiple myeloma and related plasma cell dyscrasias

    Author : Therese Nilsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetik; cytogenetik; cytogenetics; Genetics; FISH; cytogenetic; multiple myeloma; MGUS;

    Abstract : Acquired genetic changes have proved to be of diagnostic and prognostic importance in different hematologic malignancies as well as in some solid tumor types. However, although multiple myeloma (MM), an incurable disease, and its proceeding stage monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) are quite common, little is known about the karyotypic features of these plasma cell dyscrasias. 2. 2. Inequality, Globalization and Health

    Author : Therese Nilsson; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Liberalization; Height-for-age; Life expectancy; Inequality measurement; Multidimensionality; Globalization; Inequality; Health; Household data; Panel data; Zambia;

    Abstract : This thesis contains four independent studies that analyze various aspects of the nexus of inequality, globalization, and health with the aim to build our knowledge so some of the empirical relationships connecting these three concepts. Using data on four welfare attributes in Zambian households, Chapter 2 explores three approaches to evaluate multidimensional inequality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sensitivity Analysis and Material Parameter Estimation using Electromagnetic Modelling

    Author : Therese Sjödén; Sven Nordebo; Börje Nilsson; Margaret Cheney; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sensitivity analysis; material parameter; Fisher information; Cramér-Rao bound; electromagnetic modelling; grain angle; wood; electrical impedance tomography; inverse problems; känslighetsanalys; estimering; materialparameter; Fisher- information; Cramér-Rao-gränsen; elektromagnetisk modellering; fibervinkel; trä; elektrisk impedanstomografi; inversa problem; Waves; Signals and Systems; Vågor; signaler och system;

    Abstract : Estimating parameters is the problem of finding their values from measurements and modelling. Parameters describe properties of a system; material, for instance, are defined by mechanical, electrical, and chemical parameters. Fisher information is an information measure, giving information about how changes in the parameter effect the estimation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluorescent thiophene-based ligands for detection and characterization of disease-associated protein aggregates

    Author : Therése Klingstedt; Peter Nilsson; Per Hammarström; Henrik Zetterberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis the unique optical properties of fluorescent ligands termed luminescent conjugated oligothiophenes (LCOs) have been used to study a variety of protein aggregates associated with human protein misfolding disease. This heterogeneous group of diseases contains well known and fatal members such as Alzheimer´s and Huntington´s disease and the development of sensitive tools for the detection and characterization of protein aggregates is crucial for unravelling the complexity of these pathologies. 5. 5. Harnessing togetherness : perceptions of loneliness and promotion of social participation in the home care context

    Author : Therese Nordin; Ingeborg Nilsson; Per E. Gustafsson; Sofi Fristedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Loneliness; Older adults; Home care services; Home care delivery; Social participation; Occupational therapy; arbetsterapi;

    Abstract : Introduction: It is well known that older adults have a higher risk for loneliness, which is detrimental to health. Home care in Sweden has a responsibility to address social needs, but systematic approaches are lacking and there is a know–do gap. READ MORE
