  1. 1. Possibilities of using thermal mass in buildings to save energy, cut power consumption peaks and increase the thermal comfort

    University dissertation from Division of Building Materials, LTH, Lund University

    Author : Jonathan Karlsson; [2012]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete; aggregates; heat capacity; thermal properties; thermal conductivity; thermal inertia; thermal mass; time constant; Energy storage;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to generate knowledge to enable us to take advantage of heat storage in heavy building structures with regard to as energy savings, better thermal indoor climate, and reduced peak powers. This could include buildings that can function without energy input during cold periods, buildings that give a robust indoor climate without installed cooling, and buildings with good thermal comfort also in case of higher outdoor temperatures resulting from global warming. 2. 2. Thermal response test in situ measurements of thermal properties in hard rock

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Signhild Gehlin; [1998]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : In-situ determination of thermal properties in bedrock is important for the sizing of larger BTES systems. In-situ values of thermal conductivity may reduce required borehole length up to 30%. This thesis treats a new mobile thermal response test equipment (TED), developed in Luleå, Sweden, 1995-98. 3. 3. Processing and Properties of zirconia-CNT composites

    University dissertation from Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Latifa Melk; [2016]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Ceramics; Carbon Nanotubes; composites; Mechancial properties; Tribological properties; thermal properties; Materials science - Other material science; Teknisk materialvetenskap - Övrig teknisk materialvetenskap; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials; Smart machines and materials AERI ; Smarta maskiner och material FOI ;

    Abstract : In the last decades there has been growing interest in developing ceramic materials with high fracture toughness (KIc) and strength for structural applications. In the specific case of 3 mol % yttria-doped tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP), K_Ic can be increased by promoting phase transformation from tetragonal (t) to monoclinic (m) phase in front of a propagating crack tip referred to as transformation toughening. 4. 4. Footwear for cold environments. Thermal properties, performance and testing

    University dissertation from Luleå University of Technology

    Author : Kalev Kuklane; [1999]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal insulation; sweating; skin temperature; thermal foot model; thermal responses; pain sensation; boots; footwear; cold; foot;

    Abstract : Present standard on safety footwear (EN 344) checks the insulation only at one point in the shoes by means of measuring the temperature change. A method that uses thermal foot model allows to measure footwear insulation simultaneously at various locations and for whole footwear as well. READ MORE
