  1. 1. Possibilities of using thermal mass in buildings to save energy, cut power consumption peaks and increase the thermal comfort

    Author : Jonathan Karlsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete; aggregates; heat capacity; thermal properties; thermal conductivity; thermal inertia; thermal mass; time constant; Energy storage;

    Abstract : The aim of this project was to generate knowledge to enable us to take advantage of heat storage in heavy building structures with regard to as energy savings, better thermal indoor climate, and reduced peak powers. This could include buildings that can function without energy input during cold periods, buildings that give a robust indoor climate without installed cooling, and buildings with good thermal comfort also in case of higher outdoor temperatures resulting from global warming. 2. 2. Advances in Thermal Insulation : Vacuum Insulation Panels and Thermal Efficiency to Reduce Energy Usage in Buildings

    Author : Thomas Thorsell; Folke Björk; Mark Bomberg; Targo Kalamees; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vacuum insulation panels; VIP; serpentine edge; thermal bridge; composite film; gas diffusion; defect dominated; holistic approach; building enclosure; integrated testing and modeling; energy equivalent; field performance; air flow; thermal insulation efficiency;

    Abstract : We are coming to realize that there is an urgent need to reduce energy usage in buildings and it has to be done in a sustainable way. This thesis focuses on the performance of the building envelope; more precisely thermal performance of walls and super insulation material in the form of vacuum insulation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Comfort Climate Evaluation with Thermal Manikin Methods and Computer Simulation Models

    Author : Håkan O Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : thermal climate assessment; thermal environment; office environment; cabin; climate; CFD; thermal manikin; comfort zone diagram;

    Abstract : Increasing concern about energy consumption and thesimultaneous need for an acceptable thermal environment makesit necessary to estimate in advance what effect differentthermal factors will have on the occupants. Temperaturemeasurements alone do not account for all climate effects onthe human body and especially not for local effects ofconvection and radiation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electrothermal Simulation in a Concurrent Waveform Relaxation Based Circuit Simulator

    Author : Magnus Wiklund; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Circuit synthesis; Bond graphs; Nullor; Circuit theory; Analog simulation; Circuit simulation; Multiprocessor computer; CONCISE; Parallel computation; Waveform relaxation; Thermal models; Transistor models; Electro-thermal simulation; Electro-thermal modeling; Translinear circuits; Electronics; Elektronik; Electrical engineering; Elektroteknik;

    Abstract : The main purpose of this work is to study methods to simulate electro-thermal effects in integrated circuits using CONCISE a waveform relaxation based circuit simulator. WR is a method that is suitable to run on a multi-computer with state of the art computing power. Especially CMOS VLSI circuits have been simulated successfully with WR. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermal models of buildings : determination of temperatures, heating and cooling loads : theories, models and computer programs

    Author : Kurt Källblad; Institutionen för byggvetenskaper; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Building construction; Computer Programs; Windows; Infiltration; Comfort; Walls; Indoor Climate; Climate; Ventilation; Cooling Load; Heating Load; Buildings; Thermal Models; Building Physics; Energy; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The need to estimate indoor temperatures, heating or cooling load and energy requirements for buildings arises in many stages of a buildings life cycle, e.g. at the early layout stage, during the design of a building and for energy retrofitting planning. Other purposes are to meat the authorities requirements given in building codes. READ MORE
