1. Modelling and Simulation of Thermal Radiation in Biomass Combustion
Abstract : This thesis presents numerical investigations and simulations of fixed bed combustion of wood, models for predicting thermal radiative properties of particles and gases related to the combustion of wood, and a review of heat load calculations in gas turbines. All subjects have a common factor in thermal radiation. READ MORE

2. Damage mechanisms for near-infrared radiation induced cataract
Abstract : Purpose: 1) To estimate the threshold dose and the time evolution for cataract induction by near infrared radiation (IRR) in seconds exposure time domain; 2) to determine the ocular temperature development during the threshold exposure; 3) to investigate if near IRR induces cumulative lens damage considering irradiance exposure time reciprocity; 4) to experimentally estimate the temperature in the lens indirectly from the measurement of temperature-induced light scattering increase. Methods: Before exposure, 6-weeks-old albino rats were anesthetized and the pupils of both eyes were dilated. 3. Modelling and Experimental Investigations on Thermal Radiation in Combustion Environments
Abstract : Thermal radiation is an important physical phenomenon in combustion environments. For the understanding of existing- and the design of new combustion environments computational modelling is a useful tool as it can describe the different transport phenomena. READ MORE

4. Thermal stresses in load-bearing glass-timber components
Abstract : Thermal stresses can arise in glass used in architectonic realisations in buildings as a result of solar irradiation: that is, sunlight. The magnitude of these thermal stresses depends on the temperature conditions in the glass in terms of the temperature differences between warm and cold areas. READ MORE

5. Comfort Climate Evaluation with Thermal Manikin Methods and Computer Simulation Models
Abstract : Increasing concern about energy consumption and thesimultaneous need for an acceptable thermal environment makesit necessary to estimate in advance what effect differentthermal factors will have on the occupants. Temperaturemeasurements alone do not account for all climate effects onthe human body and especially not for local effects ofconvection and radiation. READ MORE
