26. Mid-infrared photonic devices for on-chip optical gas sensing
Abstract : Gas detection is crucial in a wide range of fields and applications, such as safety and process control in the industry, atmospheric sciences, and breath diagnostics. Optical gas sensing offers some key advantages, compared to other sensing methods such as electrochemical and semiconductor sensing: high specificity, fast response, and minimal drift. READ MORE

27. Modelling impact climate-related change on the thermal responses of lakes
Abstract : In response to climate-related changes, lakes worldwide have experienced warmer surface water temperatures, shorter ice cover periods and changes in lake stratification. As these aspects of lake dynamics exert substantial control over nutrient availability, oxygenation and biogeochemical cycling, predicting changes in lake water temperature and stratification dynamics can improve our understanding of the consequences of warming on lake ecosystems. 28. Thermal detector with integrated absorber structure for mid-IR gas detection
Abstract : Measurement of the concentration of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide(CO 2 ) and methane (CH 4 ), in the atmosphere has received significant attention in the last few decades. This work focusses on the development of high-performance thermopile detectors for use with the non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) measurements of such gases. READ MORE

29. Linear response theory: from black holes to Weyl systems and back
Abstract : Linear response theory is a powerful calculation tool in quantum field theory. We apply this framework to a variety of models originating from distinct areas in theoretical physics and for different reasons. READ MORE

30. Design, Fabrication and Optimization of Thermal Radiation Detectors Based on Thin Polymer Membranes
Abstract : The number of applications in which infrared radiation sensors are used is increasing. In some applications, the cost of the sensor itself is an issue, and simple solutions are thus required. In this thesis, the investigations have related to the use of thin polymer membranes in thermal infrared sensors, such as bolometers and thermopiles. READ MORE
