1. Electrical Characterization of Metal-Oxide-Silicon Structures with Ultra Thin Oxide Layers
Abstract : Metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures with very thin (2 - 4 nm) oxide layers thermally grown on silicon have been electrically characterized regarding oxide and interface defects and concerning the direct tunnel current through the oxide. This thesis comprises eight papers which deal with the appearance of oxide charge during electrical stress (papers A, D, E), the beneficial effect on the defect density of low-temperature (up to 350 °C) post-metallization annealing (PMA) (paper A, B, C, G), and the effect of temperature and choice of metal for the tunnel current (paper F, H). 2. Ultrathin Oxides in Metal-Oxide-Silicon Structures: Defects and Characterization
Abstract : The properties of metal-oxide-silicon (MOS) structures with ultrathin oxide layers (15-30 Å) have been investigated by means of electrical characterization. The characterization methods used were mainly capacitance voltage (C-V), current voltage (I-V) and constant voltage stress (I-t) measurements. READ MORE

3. Design of Thermal Barrier Coatings : A modelling approach
Abstract : Atmospheric plasma sprayed (APS) thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are commonly used for thermal protection of components in modern gas turbine application such as power generation, marine and aero engines. TBC is a duplex material system consisting of an insulating ceramic topcoat layer and an intermetallic bondcoat layer. READ MORE

4. Micromechanics of oxides - From complex scales to single crystals
Abstract : Protective oxide scales shield high temperature materials from corrosion, thus ensuring safety and long material life under adverse operating conditions. Cracking and spallation of such scales can lead to fatigue crack initiation and expose the material to further oxidation. READ MORE

5. Corrosion of Ferritic Stainless Steels Used in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells
Abstract : Solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) are energy conversion systems with clean emissions (depending on the fuel used) and high electrical efficiencies, which could potentially replace conventional conversion systems such as combustion engines. However, other issues, such as high costs and limited lifetime, must be resolved before widespread commercialization of SOFCs can be achieved. READ MORE
