1. CO2 separation using ionic liquid-based absorbents : thermodynamics and kinetics
Abstract : Ionic liquids (ILs) have shown great potential to be used as absorbents for CO2 separation owing to their unique properties such as immeasurably low vapour pressure, high thermal stability, high CO2 affinity, and tunable structure. A huge amount of researches have been carried out, and most of them focused on developing novel ILs for CO2 separation. READ MORE

2. Crystallization of Parabens : Thermodynamics, Nucleation and Processing
Abstract : In this work, the solubility of butyl paraben in 7 pure solvents and in 5 different ethanol-water mixtures has been determined from 1 ˚C to 50 ˚C. The solubility of ethyl paraben and propyl paraben in various solvents has been determined at 10 ˚C. READ MORE

3. Thermodynamics of Protein Folding and Design
Abstract : The protein folding and protein design problems are addressed, using coarse-grained models with only two types of amino acids, hydrophobic and hydrophilic. In addition to hydrophobicity forces, the models contain sequence-independent local interactions which are found to strongly influence the thermodynamics of these models. READ MORE

4. Hydrogen Storage Materials : Design, Catalysis, Thermodynamics, Structure and Optics
Abstract : Hydrogen is abundant, uniformly distributed throughout the Earth's surface and its oxidation product (water) is environmentally benign. Owing to these features, it is considered as an ideal synthetic fuel for a new world energetic matrix (renewable, secure and environmentally friendly) that could allow a sustainable future development. 5. Profitability = f(G) : Computational Thermodynamics, Materials Design and Process Optimization
Abstract : The thesis starts by giving a motivation to materials modeling as a way to increase profitability but also a possibility decrease the environmental impact. Fundamental concepts of relevance for this work are introduced, this include the materials genome, ICME and of course the CALPHAD method. READ MORE
