  1. 11. Calorimetry under extreme conditions

    Author : Neha Kondedan; Andreas Rydh; Ali Elshaari; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanocalorimetry; Diamond anvil cell; Specific heat; Thermometry; Quasicrystals; Solid State Physics; fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis presents developments of nanocalorimetry systems tailored for use under extreme conditions such as high pressure, intense magnetic fields, and low temperature. Nanocalorimetry is a powerful approach to study strongly correlated systems like superconductors, heavy fermions, and quantum materials with non-trivial magnetic or electronic properties, materials with emergent magnetic orders, as well as quasicrystals. 2. 12. Rotationally cold molecular ions in DESIREE : Threshold photodetachment thermometry of OH− and OD−

    Author : Gustav Eklund; Henning Schmidt; Roland Wester; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In experiments on molecular ions it is highly beneficial if the ions are in the electronic, vibrational and rotational ground state. Previous studies on these systems in ion traps or storage rings have been successful in preparing the molecular ions in the electronic and vibrational ground states, but the rotational degrees of freedom are experimentally more challenging due to their long relaxation times and the relatively small amounts of energy required for rotational excitations. 3. 13. Coulomb Blockade Thermometry and Other Aspects of Tunnel Junction Arrays

    Author : Tobias Bergsten; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This report describes experimental results on a few different aspects of two-dimensional tunnel junction arrays: Coulomb blockade thermometry (CBT), Hall effect and Josephson array magnetometry (JAM). CBT is a primary thermometry method which is only a few years old. It is suitable for cryogenic temperatures between 20 mK and 30 K. READ MORE

  4. 14. Advances in Microwave Hyperthermia Treatment using Time Reversal

    Author : Hana Dobsicek Trefna; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microwave hyperthermia; time reversal; microwave thermometry; annular phased array; amplifier system; treatment planning;

    Abstract : The last twenty years have seen many clinical studies showing the ability of hyperthermia to remarkably enhance response to radiation therapy and chemotherapy. The objective of hyperthermia treatment is to raise the temperature in tumors to therapeutic levels, for a sufficient period of time, in order to achieve cell death or render the cells more sensitive to ionizing radiation and/or chemotherapy. 5. 15. Antenna Design, Radiobiological Modelling, and Non-invasive Monitoring for Microwave Hyperthermia

    Author : Morteza Ghaderi Aram; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; UWB Antennas; Bio-Electromagnetics; Hyperthermia; Microwave Thermometry; Radiobiological Modeling;

    Abstract : The death toll of cancers is on the rise worldwide and surviving patients suffer significant side effects from conventional therapies. To reduce the level of toxicity in patients treated with the conventional treatment modalities, hyperthermia (HT) has been investigated as an adjuvant modality and shown to be a potent tumor cell sensitizer for radio- and chemotherapy.
