1. Atomistic modelling of functional solid oxides for industrial applications : Density Functional Theory, hybrid functional and GW-based studies
Abstract : In this Thesis a set of functional solid oxides for industrial applications have been addressed by first principles and thermodynamical modelling. More specificially, measurable quantities such as Gibbs free energy, geometry and electronic structure have been calculated and compared when possible with experimental data. READ MORE

2. First Principles Calculations of Electron Transport and Structural Damage by Intense Irradiation
Abstract : First principle electronic structure theory is used to describe the effect of crystal binding on radiation detectors, electron transport properties, and structural damage induced by intense irradiation. A large database containing general electronic structure results to which data mining algorithms can be applied in the search for new functional materials, a case study is presented for scintillator detector materials. 3. Role of charge and spin fluctuations and their interplay in solids : A Green’s function approach
Abstract : Due to the large number of electrons, solid state physics boils down to many-body approximations in which only selected types of collective excitations are taken into account, guided by the emergent properties of the material under study. In this thesis, the collective excitations of primary interest are electronic charge and spin fluctuations(plasmons and magnons) and nuclear charge fluctuations (phonons). READ MORE

4. Millimeter-Wave High-Gain Antenna for 5G Backhauling with Auto-beam-tracking Function
Abstract : As microwave links are increasingly deployed within the millimeter-wave frequency range, E-band (70/80 GHz) links have been installed on a global scale. One major technological challenge in this high-frequency spectrum is the significant increase in path loss between receivers and transmitters. READ MORE

5. Quantitative Modeling of Gain in Quantum Cascade Lasers under Operational Intensities
Abstract : This thesis adresses modeling of quantum cascade lasers using non-equilibrium Green’s functions. Focus lies on the quantitative modeling of the gain when the systems are exposed to strong laser fields, as under realistic opertional conditions. READ MORE
