  1. 1. Toward better image reproduction in offset

    Author : Emmi Enoksson; Nils Enlund; Ulf Lindqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Images; offset; printing; ICC; color; gamut; profile; calibration; separation; GCR; UCR; characterization; gray balance; Computer science; Datalogi; Media and communication studies; Medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis has focused on color reproduction processes in the graphics field and is based on theoretical research and practical studies. The purpose of this thesis was to investigate how new tools and tools adapted to a specific production set-up can be used to raise awareness regarding the quality and workflow of images and image processing for sheet-fed offset within the graphic industry. 2. 2. Modelling the offset lithographic printing process

    Author : Cristofer Englund; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neural networks; Self-organizing map; Data mining; Outlier detection; Leverages; Committee; Adaptive modelling; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : A concept for data management and adaptive modelling of the offset lithographic printing process is proposed. Artificial neural networks built from historical process data are used to model the offset printing process aiming to develop tools for online ink flow control. READ MORE

  3. 3. Using Multicoloured Halftone Screens for Offset Print Quality Monitoring

    Author : Lars Bergman; Björn Kruse; Antanas Verikas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datorteknik; multicolour printing; printing process; colour images; colour impression; CCD-camera; Datorteknik; Computer engineering; Datorteknik;

    Abstract : In the newspaper printing industry, offset is the dominating printing method and the use of multicolour printing has increased rapidly in newspapers during the last decade. The offset printing process relies on the assumption that an uniform film of ink of right thickness is transferred onto the printing areas. READ MORE

  4. 4. Process intensification in mechanical pulping : Reduced process complexity and improved energy efficiency

    Author : Christer Sandberg; Per Engstrand; Jan-Erik Berg; Göran Bengtsson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This work shows that, for newsprint quality grades, the production processes for mechanical pulp can be simplified, and the specific electrical energy demand can be reduced with around 600 kWh/ton (30%). The purpose of the work is to demonstrate how the production cost for mechanical pulps can be decreased through increased energy efficiency and reduced number of unit operations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modelling and controlling an offset lithographic printing process

    Author : Cristofer Englund; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Neural networks; Self-organizing map; Data mining; Outlier detection; Committee; Multiple models; Colour print control; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to provide methods for print quality enhancements in an offset lithographic printing proess. Various parameters characterising the print quality are recognised, however, in this work print quality is defined as the deviation of the amount of ink in a sample image from the reference print.
