  1. 1. Hydrological and sediment yield modelling in Lake Tana Basin, Blue Nile Ethiopia

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Anders Wörman; C. Green Rossi; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SWAT; Lake Tana; Blue Nile; hydrological modelling; watershed modelling; MCE; SUFI-2; GLUE; ParaSol; streamflows; sediment yield; erosion; water balance; model calibration; NATURAL SCIENCES Earth sciences Atmosphere and hydrosphere sciences Hydrology; NATURVETENSKAP Geovetenskap Atmosfärs- och hydrosfärsvetenskap Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Land and water resources degradation are the major problems on the Ethiopian highlands. Poor land use practices and improper management systems have played a significant role in causing high soil erosion rates, sediment transport and loss of agricultural nutrients. So far limited meas-ures have been taken to combat the problems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling Hydrological and Hydrodynamic Processes in Lake Tana Basin, Ethiopia

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH

    Author : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Nicola Fohrer; [2010]

    Abstract : Lake Tana Basin is of significant importance to Ethiopia concerning water resources aspects and the ecological balance of the area. The growing high demands in utilizing the high potentials of water resource of the Lake to its maximal limit, pictures a disturbing future for the Lake. READ MORE

  3. 3. Organic Phosphorus Compounds in Aquatic Sediments Towards Molecular Identification with Mass Spectrometry

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Universitetsbiblioteket

    Author : Heidi De Brabandere; Monica Waldebäck; Emil Rydin; Per J. R. Sjöberg; Rolf Danielsson; William T. Cooper; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electrospray ionisation; mass spectrometry; liquid chromatography; organic phosphorus; aquatic sediment; eutrophication; sample preparation; extraction; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Analytical chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) regulates trophic status in most aquatic systems. However, only bioavailable P contributes to primary production. In most lakes and shallow seas, mineralisation of sediment P into its bioavailable form and its release to the water column is important for maintaining primary production. READ MORE

  4. 4. Urinary tract infections in primary health care in northern Sweden epidemiological, bacteriological and clinical aspects

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Universitetsbiblioteket

    Author : Sven Ferry; Bengt Mattsson; Lars Burman; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Urinary tract infection UTI ; primary health care PHC ; epidemiology; clinical presentation; bacteriuria diagnosis; bacteriology; drug resistance; therapy;

    Abstract : The epidemiology of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the population of Vännäs (8 000 inhabitants) was studied during one year. The annual incidence increased from 0.5% in the first decade of life to more than 10% in the age group 90-100 years. READ MORE

  5. 5. Environmental and hydrogeological geophysics with applications in Thailand, Laos, and Sweden

    University dissertation from Luleå : Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Kamhaeng Wattanasen; [2007]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geophysics; Tillämpad geofysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents applications of geophysical methods in the fields of environment and hydrogeology. In relation to environmental problems, two different geophysical surveys have been carried out; one to study an arsenic contaminated area in the southern Thailand (paper I) and a second to locate shallow faults in Quaternary sediments in an area around the Ongkharak Nuclear Research Centre, central Thailand (paper II).
