  1. 1. Snowmobile, motorcycle and moose-car accidents : aspects on injury control

    Author : Ulf Björnstig; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Injury; accident; prevention; snowmobile; motorcycle; moose-car collision;

    Abstract : Injuries related to snowmobiles, motorcycles and moose-car collisions have increased. The aim of the present thesis was to analyse mechanisms and consequences in fatal and non-fatal accidents of these types, and to penetrate possible preventive measures.SnowmobilesThe median age of the injured was 30 and of the killed 32, males predominating. 2. 2. On Men and Cars : An Ethnographic Study of Gendered, Risky and Dangerous Relations

    Author : Dag Balkmar; Jeff Hearn; Cecilia Åsberg; Victoria Robinson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Gender; masculinity; technology; cars; risk; danger; emotions; car modification; Genus; maskulinitet; teknik; bilar; risk; fara; emotioner; bilstyling; Gender Studies; Genusvetenskap;

    Abstract : It is well known that young men constitute a high-risk group in terms of accidents involving both themselves and others. But comparatively little is known about the roles of gender, masculinity and automobility in reproducing or subverting such particularly risky performances of identity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling and inference of relative collision safety in cars

    Author : Anna Vadeby; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Collision; Mathematical model; Head on collision; Injury; Risk; Car; 91 Road: Vehicle design and construction; 91 Road: Vehicle design and construction; 85 Road: Personal injuries; 85 Road: Personal injuries;

    Abstract : We propose a new mathematical model for relative collision safety in cars. Our present research is restricted to head-on crashes between two cars and we try to determine how much of the injury risk in a crash that depends on car model. The relative risks include the driver populations of the different car models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Injury Biomechanics in Car-Pedestrian Collisions: Development, Validation and Application of Human-Body Mathematical Models

    Author : Jikuang Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; impact biomechanics; car; mathematical dynamic model; pedestrian; safety countermeasure;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to develop and validate human-body mathematical models which can be used to simulate the dynamic responses of pedestrians in a car impact. The main focus has been on simulations of bumper impact to the lower extremities, since lower extremity injuries most frequently occur in car-pedestrian accidents and result in long-term consequences and high social costs. 5. 5. Monitoring winter road friction using floating car data

    Author : Sofia Sollén; Johan Casselgren; Mikael Sjödahl; Hawzheen Karim; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Floating Car Data; Winter Road Maintenance; Tire-to-Road Friction; Road Safety; Vision Zero; Intelligent Transport Systems; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Abstract : More than a million people die every year due to road traffic accidents globally where one in five serious or fatal accidents occurs during severe weather conditions. Sweden is in the lead of Vision Zero, with the aim of zero casualties due to road traffic, and every year new countries and organisations accept the challenge of saving lives. READ MORE
