  1. 1. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia : Studies on cardiovascular disease, biomarkers and subclones

    Author : Karin Larsson; Martin Höglund; Geir Tjønnfjord; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; cardiovascular disease; population-based; biomarkers; subclones; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The treatment of Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is rapidly changing, with targeted therapies, e.g. Bruton’s tyrosine kinase inhibitors (BTKi), entering the frontline and relapse setting. However, BTKis have significant adverse effects, most notably cardiovascular disease (CVD). READ MORE

  2. 2. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia : Studies from genetics to epidemiology with focus on the impact of different treatments

    Author : Mattias Mattsson; Richard Rosenquist; Clemens Wendtner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; genetics; epidemiology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical Genetics; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology;

    Abstract : The progress in our understanding of the biology and pathophysiology of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), as well as the development of new treatments, necessitates additional research on; (i) the impact of different therapies within subgroups of CLL patients, (ii) solid epidemiological data on the prevalence of CLL and on comorbidities within the CLL population, and (iii) new means of prognostication, as the value of traditional prognostic markers is uncertain when applied to new treatments.In paper I we studied the efficacy of chemo(immuno)therapy in stereotyped subsets #1 and #2. 3. 3. Pharmacology and resistance mechanisms of nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase II interactive agents : studies on human leukemia cells with a focus on cross-resistance

    Author : Kourosh Lotfi; Rolf Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Nucleoside analogue; cross-resistance; multidrug resistance; deoxycytidine kinase; leukemia; anthracyclines; P-glycoprotein; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to elucidate mechanisms of action and resistance of clinically relevant nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase interactive agents in human leukemia cell lines and leukernia cells isolated from peripheral blood of leukemia patients. Interactions and cross-resistance patterns of these different cytotoxic drug families were also studied since these drugs are usually administrated in combination in the clinic. READ MORE

  4. 4. Population-based studies on acute leukemias - lessons from the Swedish Adult Acute Leukemia Registry

    Author : Lovisa Vennström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Acute leukemia; population-based; incidence; survival; acute myeloid leukemia; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; acute promyelocytic leukemia; early death;

    Abstract : Acute leukemia (AL) is a rare, potentially curable, aggressive neoplasm of hematopoietic origin. AL is a heterogeneous disease and is further subdivided according to clinical and biological features. READ MORE

  5. 5. IKAROS and LEUKEMIA

    Author : Linda Olsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia; relapse; risk-stratifying factors; IKZF1; cooperative changes;

    Abstract : Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is characterized by an accumulation of immature lymphoid cells in the bone marrow and is the most common cancer type in children. It is an immunophenotypically, morphologically, clinically, and genetically heterogeneous disorder that comprises several distinct subtypes. READ MORE
