  1. 1. Urogenital probiotics : potential role of Lactobacillus in the prevention of urogenital infections in women

    Author : Daniel Rönnqvist; Eva Essum AB Grahn Håkansson; Ulla SCA Hygiene Care Forsgren-Brusk; Anders Sjöstedt; Patricia Conway; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lactobacillus; normal flora; probiotics; urogenital infections; Candida; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi;

    Abstract : The human vaginal ecosystem is dominated by Lactobacillus species. An altered vaginal flora can result in symptomatic conditions such as bacterial vaginosis and vulvo-vaginal candidiasis, and urogenital colonisation by uropathogenic bacteria can cause urinary tract infection. 2. 2. Effect of Probiotics on Caries-related Variables

    Author : Sahal Alforaidi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bacterial interference; ; Caries; Caries prevention; ; Dental biofilm; ; Dental plaque; ; Lactobacilli; Lactobacillus reuteri; ; Streptococcus mutans; ; Plaque acidogenicity; ; Probiotics; qPCR; Saliva; Virulence;

    Abstract : In relation to the caries disease, the aims of this thesis were to investigate the effect of probiotic drops on different caries-related variables in vivo (Papers I & III), on interference capability and genetic response to different metabolites in vitro (II) and systematically to review the best mode and dose of administration based on the examined oral outcomes (IV). The effects on colonisation and cariogenic bacteria were studied in plaque and saliva via plating and qPCR-analyses in teenagers and orthodontic patients after short-term exposure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of Probiotics and Plant Components on Murine Experimental Colitis and Acute Liver Failure

    Author : Nadia Osman; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; bacteriology; virology; Rose hip; Microbiology; Probiotics; Prebiotics; Liver injury; Blueberry; Gastro-enterology; Colitis; Gastroenterologi; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : Acute liver failure is accompanied by a high rate of bacterial septic complications. High portal level of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) can lead to a pronounced secretion by Kupffer cells of pro-inflammatory mediators which have been shown to be early and important mediators of liver injury. 4. 4. Enhancing the stability of probiotics: Freeze-drying and encapsulation

    Author : Shuai Bai; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; freeze-drying; lyophilization; L.ruteri; Probiotics; Lyoprotectant; Structure; Encapsulating material; Pore size; Material thickness; SEM; Tomography; Storage stability; Amorphous sugars; Glass transition temperature; DSC;

    Abstract : This research dives into the intricate world of freeze-drying, an essential process in pharmaceutical and probiotic industries, to better understand the factors affecting probiotic stability during storage. The process of freeze-drying and the composition of freeze-dried products significantly affect the stability of probiotics, yet factors such as the material’s encapsulation properties remain relatively unexplored, demanding further research. 5. 5. On prevention and treatment of peri-implant inflammation

    Author : Hadar Hallström; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Probiotics; Peri-implantitis; Dentala implantat;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on prevention and treatment of biological complications around dental implants.BackgroundAn increasing number of individuals have restorations that are anchored to the jaws by dental implants. Modern-day implants are a Swedish invention that became available to patients in the 1970s. READ MORE
