  1. 1. Chronic Tennis Elbow : Aspects on Pathogenesis and Treatment in a Soft Tissue Pain Condition

    Author : Magnus Peterson; Kurt Svärdsudd; Margaretha Eriksson; Harald Breivik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : tennis elbow; pain; chronic; soft tissue; imaging; PET; RCT; survey; treatment; exercise; eccentric; concentric; epicondylosis; epicondylitis; tendinosis; tendinitis;

    Abstract : Objectives: To study the treatment practice of chronic tennis elbow (TE) among general practitioners (GPs) and physiotherapists (PTs), the effects of a simple, graded home exercise regime versus expectation, the effects of eccentric versus concentric exercise, and the involvement of the substance P – NK1 receptor system in the peripheral, painful tissue of chronic TE patients by positron emission tomography (PET). Materials and methods: A postal survey regarding therapeutic methods used in patients with chronic TE was sent to 129 GPs and 77 PTs, 81 subjects with chronic TE were randomly and blindly assigned to either an exercise group or a wait list group, 120 subjects were randomly assigned to either eccentric or concentric exercise and ten subjects were examined by PET and the NK1 specific radioligand [11C]GR205171. 2. 2. Blood Flow in Human Skeletal Muscle : The Effect of Adrenaline and the Influence of a Small Muscle Injury

    Author : Torbjörn Vedung; Jan Henriksson; Jan Lundvall; Södersjukhuset Karolinska Institutet. Dept of Hand Surgery Dept of Physiology and Pharmacology; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenaline; blood flow; blood redistribution; ischemia; muscle injury; skeletal muscle; strain-gauge plethysmography; sympathetic tone; transmural pressure; 99mTechnetium clearance; tennis elbow; venous compliance; venous occlusion plethysmography; 133Xenon clearance; adrenaline;

    Abstract : A variety of vasoregulatory systems are involved in the complex control of blood flow inhuman skeletal muscle. The interaction between these systems where one system canoverride or modify the other makes blood flow regulation complicated. READ MORE

    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Disorders causing pain in the elbow region is a common problem and is one of the most frequent forms of work-related health problems. These conditions are thus of major importance from the public health point of view, as well as from that of the suffering individual. READ MORE

  4. 4. The involvement of the TNF-alpha system in skeletal muscle in response to marked overuse

    Author : Lina Renström; Sture Forsgren; Per Stål; Håkan Alfredson; Eva Ekblad; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TNF-alpha; TNFR1; TNFR2; muscle damage; myositis; peritendinous tissue; tendinopathy;

    Abstract : Painful conditions having the origin within the musculoskeletal system is a common cause for people to seek medical care. Between 20-40% of all visits to the primal care in Sweden are coupled to pain from the musculoskeletal system. Muscle pain and impaired muscle function can be caused by muscles being repetitively overused and/or via heavy load. READ MORE
