1. Ionization and Fragmentation of Complex Molecules and Clusters : Biomolecules and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons
Abstract : This work deals with ionization and fragmentation of biomolecules and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules. They are studied in the gas phase both as isolated molecules and as weakly bound clusters. READ MORE

2. Characterization of α-synuclein oligomers : Implications for Lewy Body Disorders
Abstract : Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and multiple system atrophy are disorders featuring accumulation of Lewy bodies in brain. The main component of these large insoluble intracellular inclusions is the presynaptic protein alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein). READ MORE

3. Condition-based Failure Rate Modelling for Individual Components in the Power System
Abstract : The electrical power grid is one of the most important infrastructures in the modernsociety. It supplies industrial and private customers with electricity and supportsother critical infrastructures such as the water supply. Thus, it is significant that the power grid is a reliable system. 4. Turbulence-Assisted Planetary Growth : Hydrodynamical Simulations of Accretion Disks and Planet Formation
Abstract : The current paradigm in planet formation theory is developed around a hierarquical growth of solid bodies, from interstellar dust grains to rocky planetary cores. A particularly difficult phase in the process is the growth from meter-size boulders to planetary embryos of the size of our Moon or Mars. READ MORE

5. Electron-transfer processes in fast ion-atom collisions
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is experimental studies of electron-transfer processes in ion-atom collisions at velocities significantly higher than typical orbital velocities of electrons in bound states of atoms or molecules. The experimental technique applied combines the high beam intensity of heavy-ion storage rings with a supersonic gas-jet target equipped with a recoil-ion-momentum spectrometer. READ MORE
