  1. 1. Brain Tissue Oxygenation in Traumatic Brain Injury : Experimental and Clinical Studies

    Author : Karlis Purins; Anders Lewén; Per Enblad; Oliver Sakowitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain tissue oxygenation; Cerebral metabolism; Traumatic brain injury; Cerebral ischemia; Threshold levels; Neurovent-PTO; Microdialysis; Neurosurgery; Neurokirurgi;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability. TBI is frequently followed by cerebral ischemia which is a great contributor to secondary brain damage. The main causes of cerebral ischemia are pathophysiological changes in cerebral blood flow and metabolism. READ MORE

  2. 2. Offshore wind farms - ecological effects of noise and habitat alteration on fish

    Author : Mathias H. Andersson; Sören Nylin; Magnus Wahlberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; renewable energy; fish population; artificial reef; attraction vs. production; habitat structure; reef effect; FAD; bioacoustics; noise disturbance; fish behaviour; detection range; threshold; masking; fish communication and hearing; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; zoologisk ekologi; Animal Ecology;

    Abstract : There are large gaps in our understanding how fish populations are affected by the anthropogenic noise and the alteration of habitat caused by the construction and operation of offshore wind farms. These issues are of great importance as the construction of offshore wind farms will increase all over the world in the near future. READ MORE

  3. 3. Corrosion of steel in concrete at various moisture and chloride levels

    Author : Johan Ahlström; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steel; rebar; concrete; corrosion; chloride threshold level; moisture;

    Abstract : About 7000 concrete bridges in Sweden were built before 1965. The annual cost for maintenance of these bridges is about 0.6% of their total value. The cooling water tunnels at Swedish nuclear power plants have been exposed to seawater for about 30-40 years. READ MORE

  4. 4. Supra-threshold hearing loss and wide dynamic range compression

    Author : Henrik L Olsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; Hearing impairment; compression; hearing aids; modulated noise; speech intelligibility; temporal resolution; modulation transfer function;

    Abstract : Cochlear hearing loss leads to deficits in many perceptual aspects, including threshold elevation (loss of sensitivity), reduction of auditory dynamic range (loudness recruitment) and problems with resolving sounds (loss of supra-threshold hearing). An ongoing debate is whether assessment of the individual supra-threshold hearing provides information which is likely to have an important influence on clinical decisions on signal processing strategies. 5. 5. Resistance breathing with PEP and CPAP : effects on respiratory parameters

    Author : Maria Sehlin; Ola Winsö; Karin Wadell; Fredrik Öhberg; Monika Fagevik Olsèn; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chest physiotherapy; breathing exercises; PEP; CPAP; airway pressure; airflow; threshold resistor; flow resistor; inspiratory capacity; Borg CR10;

    Abstract : Background: Positive expiratory pressure (PEP) and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) are two forms of resistance breathing used in spontaneously breathing patients. With a threshold resistor or a flow resistor, both PEP and CPAP provide a positive (elevated) pressure level during the expiratory phase. READ MORE
