  1. 16. The role of platelet thrombin receptors PAR1 and PAR4 in health and disease

    Author : Martina Nylander; Tomas Lindahl; Magnus Grenegård; Riitta Lassila; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Blood cells are continuously flowing in our systems maintaining haemostasis in the arteries and veins. If a vessel is damaged, the smallest cell fragments in the blood (platelets) are directed to cover the wound and plug the leakage to prevent blood loss. Most of the time platelets stop the blood leak without any difficulties. READ MORE

  2. 17. Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor 1 in Platelets - Studies of Synthesis, Activity, and Glycosylation Patterns

    Author : Helén Brogren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : PAI-1; platelets; plasma; fibrinolysis; synthesis; polymorphism; glycosylation; activity; platelet mRNA;

    Abstract : Plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (PAI-1) is the main physiological inhibitor of tissue-type plasminogen activator. Thus PAI-1 plays an important role in decreasing the fibrinolytic activity in human blood. PAI-1 is present in high concentrations in platelets and also in low concentrations in plasma, but the source of plasma PAI-1 is not known. READ MORE

  3. 18. The effect of thrombin inhibitors on coagulation activity and generation of activated protein C

    Author : Rikard Linder; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The direct thrombin inhibitor inogatran was, in the TRIM trial (n=1209), compared with unfractionated heparin (UFH) concerning the effect on cardiovascular end-points in unstable coronary artery disease. The results in TRIM demonstrated a trend towards a benefit for UFH during the treatment phase, which was reduced after drug withdrawal. READ MORE

  4. 19. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors in Treatment and Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism: Dose – Concentration – Response Relationships

    Author : Marie Cullberg; Mats O. Karlsson; Ulf G. Eriksson; Nick H.G. Holford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; Ximelagatran; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; activated partial thromboplastin time; utility function; dosing strategy; venous thromboembolism; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : For prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases with an anticoagulant drug it is important that an adequate dose is given to avoid occurrence or recurrence of thrombosis, without increasing the risk of bleeding and other adverse events to unacceptable levels. The aim of this thesis was to develop mathematical models that describe the dose-concentration (pharmacokinetic) and concentration-response (pharmacodynamic) relationships of direct thrombin inhibitors, in order to estimate optimal dosages for treatment and long-term secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). 5. 20. Exploring Anti-FVIII Antibodies in Haemophilia A - Role in In Vitro Haemostasis and Clinical Disease

    Author : Jenny Klintman; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hemophilia A; inhibitors; non-neutralizing anti-FVIII antibodies; thrombin generation assay; ELISA;

    Abstract : Haemophilia A (HA) is caused by defective synthesis of coagulation factor VIII(FVIII), which has serious effects on haemostasis; joints being the most common site of bleeding. The development of FVIII replacements has improved the situation for patients with haemophilia such that chronic arthropathy can be prevented, and life expectancy and the quality of life have increased.
