  1. 1. Early events in T cell development

    Author : Karin Leandersson; Malmö Cancerimmunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; pTalpha; gammadelta T cell; alphabeta T cell; development; thymus; thymocyte; serology; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : T cells constitute a heterogenous population of lymphocytes. Their unifying property is that they express surface bound antigen-receptors, called T cell receptors (TCRs). The TCR is a heterodimer composed of either TCRalpha and beta chain proteins (alphabeta TCR) or gamma and delta chain proteins (gammadelta TCR). READ MORE

  2. 2. A Study of Eosinophils – From the Human Thymus to Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    Author : Sofie Albinsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eosinophil; Eosinophilic esophagitis; Galectin-10; Human; Patient-reported outcome; T cell; Thymocyte; Thymus;

    Abstract : Eosinophils are cells of the innate immune system. They primarily reside within tissues and are most numerous in the gastrointestinal tract but are absent from the healthy esophagus. During the inflammatory disease eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophils infiltrate the esophagus but their function is unknown. READ MORE

  3. 3. Adseverin – An Immune-Specific Target of 2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-Dioxin

    Author : Camilla Svensson; Lars Wärngård; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; 2; 3; 7; 8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin; TCDD; adseverin; aryl hydrocarbon receptor; immunotoxicity; thymus; cytoskeleton; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : The environmental pollutant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) induces thymus atrophy and immunosuppression in all animal species examined and these effects constitute a potential risk to humans. TCDD can via binding to the intracellular aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR), modulate transcription of a number of genes and the aim of this thesis has been to identify such genes, which may explain the mechanisms behind TCDD-mediated immunotoxicity. 4. 4. Regulation of Autoimmunity and Inflammation by microRNAs and Environmental Factors

    Author : Neivis Tormo-Badia; Diabetes - immunovirologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Tolerance is crucial for maintaining immunological balance and avoid autoimmune diseases like type 1 diabetes and the inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis (UC). In Study I, we have investigated the regulatory role of a class of noncoding RNAs, the miRNAs, during thymocyte development of the where central tolerance is established. READ MORE

  5. 5. Phenotypic and functional analysis of the mesenchymal stromal cell compartment in the thymus

    Author : Katarzyna Sitnik; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thymus; mesenchymal cells; retinoic acid; thymic epithelial cells;

    Abstract : T cells are key cellular components of the adaptive immune system that play a critical role in our defense against pathogens and cancer but also contribute to pathology in the setting of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity. The thymus constitutes the body's major T cell production site, where bone marrow-derived progenitors migrate in a co-ordinated fashion through anatomically distinct cortical and medullary regions that are composed of epithelial and mesenchymal stromal elements.
