  1. 1. A Study of Eosinophils – From the Human Thymus to Eosinophilic Esophagitis

    Author : Sofie Albinsson; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Eosinophil; Eosinophilic esophagitis; Galectin-10; Human; Patient-reported outcome; T cell; Thymocyte; Thymus;

    Abstract : Eosinophils are cells of the innate immune system. They primarily reside within tissues and are most numerous in the gastrointestinal tract but are absent from the healthy esophagus. During the inflammatory disease eosinophilic esophagitis, eosinophils infiltrate the esophagus but their function is unknown. READ MORE

  2. 2. Phenotypic and functional analysis of the mesenchymal stromal cell compartment in the thymus

    Author : Katarzyna Sitnik; Slemhinnans immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thymus; mesenchymal cells; retinoic acid; thymic epithelial cells;

    Abstract : T cells are key cellular components of the adaptive immune system that play a critical role in our defense against pathogens and cancer but also contribute to pathology in the setting of chronic inflammation and autoimmunity. The thymus constitutes the body's major T cell production site, where bone marrow-derived progenitors migrate in a co-ordinated fashion through anatomically distinct cortical and medullary regions that are composed of epithelial and mesenchymal stromal elements. 3. 3. Inhibition of T cell responses to autoantigens and allergens by CD25+ regulatory T cells from thymus, cord and adult blood

    Author : Kajsa Wing; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : Tolerance; CD25 regulatory T cells; adult peripheral blood; cord blood; thymus; autoimmune disease; allergy;

    Abstract : Autoimmune diseases and allergies are a growing problem in the western world today. Tolerance is primarily established by clonal deletion in the thymus. Despite this auto-reactive T cells are normally present in most individuals, which suggests that mechanisms of peripheral tolerance operate to silence potentially pathogenic T cells. READ MORE

  4. 4. Generation of lymphocytes in the thymus : a study of morphologic, antigenic and functional development of lymphocytes in embryonic thymus organ cultures

    Author : Roger Juhlin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  5. 5. Thymic studies. Investigations into the effects of childhood thymectomy, and characterization of thymic B cells and Hassall's corpuscles

    Author : Christina Lundqvist; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thymus; thymectomy; TCR; B cells; APC; Hassall s corpuscles; AIRE;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the human thymus, a primary lymphoid organ responsible for the maturation of T cells. Progenitors arrive from the bone marrow and start to randomly assemble their T cell receptor (TCR) followed by a thorough selection process in which the TCR is tested for functionality and autoreactivity.
