  1. 16. Physiological changes in mice deficient in different subtypes of thyroid hormone receptors : a focus on studies of heart and muscle

    Author : Catarina Johansson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : heart rate; ECG; body temperature; [beta]-adrenergic receptor density; thyroid hormone; isometric twitch; SERCa;

    Abstract : The aim of these studies was to determing the specific roles of the different subtypes of thyroid hormone receptors (TR), with focus on heart and muscle function, by using mice deficient in TR[alpha]1, TR[beta] (both TR[beta]1 and TR[beta]2 subtypes) and TR[alpha]1/[beta]. For this purpose, new techniques were set up to study various physiological parameters in these mice. READ MORE

  2. 17. Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and cancer : familial risk, genetics and consequences

    Author : Weng Ian Che; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) are a group of rare rheumatic inflammatory diseases (RIDs), characterised by a diverse range of clinical, serological and histopathological characteristics, with muscle weakness as a shared hallmark. While advancements in disease management have improved the survival rates of patients with IIM, the mortality rate among patients with IIM is still higher than the general population, mainly due to association with comorbidities such as cancer. 3. 18. Unraveling the genetics of lymphocytic thyroiditis using the dog as a model

    Author : Katarina Sundberg; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The domestic dog, with its unique genetic structure formed by domestication and recent breed creation, has been proven to be an excellent model for mapping disease genes. In this thesis, we use the dog as a model to investigate the prevalence and genetic background of canine lymphocytic thyroiditis (CLT), one of the most common immune related diseases in dogs. 4. 19. Genetic Characterization of Chicken Models for Autoimmune Disease

    Author : Anna-Stina Sahlqvist; Olov Ekwall; Olle Kämpe; Leif Andersson; Susanne Kerje; Holger Luthman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Autoimmune disease; Hashimoto’s thyroiditis; systemic sclerosis; comparative genomics; linkage analysis; OS chickens; spontaneous autoimmune thyroiditis; UCD-200 chickens.; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Abstract : Autoimmune diseases are endemic, but the disease mechanisms are poorly understood. A way to better understand these are to find disease-regulating genes. However, this is difficult as the diseases are complex, with several genes as well as environmental factors influencing the development of disease. READ MORE

  5. 20. Characterization of ERp29 : a novel secretion factor of endoplasmic reticulum

    Author : Ernest Sargsyan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : ERp29 is a ubiquitously expressed endoplasmic reticulum protein strongly conserved in mammalian species. The N-terminal domain of ERp29 is similar to the thioredoxin domain of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) lacking however the double-cysteine active site motif. The C-terminal domain is a novel five-helical fold. READ MORE
