  1. 1. Palaeoglaciology of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau

    Author : Jakob Heyman; Arjen P Stroeven; Clas Hättestrand; Helena Alexanderson; Frank Lehmkuhl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tibetan Plateau; palaeoglaciology; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Quaternary geology; Kvartärgeologi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : This study concerns the palaeoglaciation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau, with emphasis on the Bayan Har Shan (Shan = Mountain) in the headwaters of Huang He (Yellow River). To reconstruct past glacier development multiple techniques, including remote sensing, field investigations, cosmogenic exposure dating, and numerical modelling have been employed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Paleoglaciology of Shaluli Shan, southeastern Tibetan Plateau

    Author : Ping Fu; Arjen Stroeven; Lewis Owen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Paleoglaciology; Tibetan Plateau; geomorphological mapping; cosmogenic nuclide; Last Glacial Maximum; glacial erosion; basal thermal regime; paleoglaciologi; Tibetanska platån; geomorfologisk kartering; kosmogena isotoper; senaste glaciala maximat; glacial erosion; subglacial temperatur; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Reconstructing the paleoglaciation of the Tibetan Plateau is critical to understanding linkages between regional climate changes and global climate changes. This work focuses on the paleoglaciology of the Shaluli Shan Mountain area in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards an improved understanding of precipitation variations over the Tibetan Plateau

    Author : Hui-Wen Lai; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Third Pole; Tibetan Plateau; precipitation; Asian summer monsoon; westerly jets; Regional Climate Model; satellite observation;

    Abstract : The Tibetan Plateau (TP) and surrounding regions are known as the ``Third Pole'' because of their polar-like environment and large reservoirs of fresh water. Due to the latter aspect, the TP is also considered the ``Water Tower of Asia'', providing essential water resources to the surrounding regions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Observing and Modeling Precipitation in the Tibetan Plateau region - from large-scale processes to convective storms

    Author : Julia Kukulies; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tibetan Plateau; Water cycle; Precipitation; Climate modeling; Mesoscale convective systems; Large-scale atmospheric circulation;

    Abstract : Climate change in mountain regions has far-reaching societal impacts such as increased risks for natural hazards and water scarcity that may affect billions of people in the downstream regions. Precipitation changes play a critical role in these impacts due to their effects on river runoff and flooding. READ MORE

  5. 5. Glacial geology of Bayan Har Shan, northeastern Tibetan Plateau

    Author : Jakob Heyman; Arjen P Stroeven; Clas Hättestrand; Helena Alexanderson; Mark D Johnson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical geography; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The paleoglaciology of the Tibetan Plateau is still largely unexplored, despite its importance for regional and global climate reconstructions. In this thesis a comprehensive glacial geological record is presented from an extensive part of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau centred on the Bayan Har Shan. READ MORE
