  1. 1. On the treatment of tibial shaft fractures

    Author : Abbas Karladani; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cast; Distraction; Dynamometry; Fracture; Limb lengthening; Nailing; Outcome; Psychometry; Shaft; Soft tissue; Tibial;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to evaluate those factors, which have predictive value for development of complications after tibial shaft fractures, and to evaluate the outcome of the available treatment methods for closed, as well as open tibial shaft fractures associated with extensive soft-tissue injury. To determine the factors, which influence healing speed, we reviewed 100 consecutive patients with 104 tibial shaft fractures tibial shaft fractures. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies of tibial fractures using the Swedish Fracture Register

    Author : David Wennergren; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture register; Tibial Fracture; Classification; Reliability; Agreement; Accuracy; Epidemiology; Incidence; Treatment; Reoperation;

    Abstract : This thesis has two topics. First, the creation and application of the Swedish Fracture Register (SFR) is described. Second, a series of studies of tibial fractures based on data from the SFR follows. READ MORE

  3. 3. Tibial shaft fractures : An epidemiological and clinical study

    Author : Abbas Emami; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; Tibial fractures; epidemiology; external fixation; infected nonunions; ultrasoundstimulation; serum bone markers; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Orthopaedics; ortopedi;

    Abstract : The epidemiological features of tibial shaft fractures were studied in Uppsala during two 5-year periods. The incidence decreased in men below 20 years of age in the late 1980's compared with the early 1970's (mostly due to a reduction of fractures sustained in traffic accidents), while the incidence increased in women over 80. 4. 4. Following the mevalonate pathway to bone heal alley

    Author : Björn Skoglund; Lars Nordsletten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Bone screws; coated materials; biocompatible; chemistry; diphosphonates; pharmacology; Equipment failure analysis methods; Femoral fractures; drug therapy; fracture fixation; instrumentation; Fracture fixation; fracture healing; drug effects; simvastatin; tibial fractures; physiopathologyial fractures; surgery; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Other veterinary medicine; Övrig veterinärmedicin;

    Abstract : The mevalonate pathway is an important biosynthetic pathway, found in all cells of virtually all known pro- as well as eukaryotic organisms. This thesis is an investigation into the use of two drugs, originally developed for different applications, but both affecting the mevalonate pathway, in to models of fracture repair. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aspects of bone quality and risk assessments in fracture and elective orthopaedic patients

    Author : Camilla Bergh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fracture; Fracture incidence; Epidemiology; Mortality; Osteoporosis; Frailty; Spinal stenosis; Bone quality; Bone mineral density;

    Abstract : Background: Bone quality, bone strength, and bone remodelling are important in many orthopaedic conditions and can have an impact on fracture incidence, bone healing, implant failure, and different outcome aspects. There is relatively sparse information on fracture incidence and mortality both for all fractures compiled and for some of the individual fracture locations. READ MORE
