  1. 1. Viperin vs. tick-borne encephalitis virus : mechanism of a potent antiviral protein

    Author : Kirstin Vonderstein; Anna Överby Wernstedt; Magnus Evander; Sonja Best; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; TBEV; type-I interferon; IFN; Interferon-stimulated gene; ISG; viperin; GBF1; CIAO1; antiviral protein; genome replication; particle release; capsid;

    Abstract : Tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV) is a very important virus medically, causing mild or severe encephalitis often with long-lasting sequelae. Treatment of tick-borne encephalitis is limited to supportive care, and antiviral drugs are much needed.The type-I interferon (IFN) system is the first line of host defense against many viruses. 2. 2. Ticks and Tick-borne Encephalitis Virus : From Nature to Infection

    Author : Naveed Asghar; Magnus Johansson; Patrik Dinnétz; Travis Taylor; Södertörns högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Co-occurrence; Environmental factors; Flavivirus; Ixodes ricinus; Natural foci; Non-coding region; Poly A tract; Quasispecies; Questing ticks; Scandinavia; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; Vegetation.; Environmental Studies; Miljövetenskapliga studier;

    Abstract : Vector-borne diseases are an increasing global threat to humans due to climate changes, elevating the risk of infections transmitted by mosquitos, ticks, and other arthropod vectors. Ixodes ricinus, a common tick in Europe, transmits dangerous tick-borne pathogens to humans. READ MORE

  3. 3. Molecular characterization of the Tick-borne encephalitis virus : Environments and replication

    Author : Wessam Melik; Magnus Johansson; Sonja Best; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : The flavivirus genus is of major concern for world morbidity and mortality and includes viruses causing both encephalitic as well as hemorrhagic diseases. The incidence of Tick-borne encephalitis is increasing in many European countries and several reports have emphasized the expansion of the main vector, Ixodes ricinus. READ MORE

  4. 4. Tick-borne encephalitis - clinical and virological aspects

    Author : Malin Veje; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Tick-borne encephalitis; TBE; zoonosis; sequelae; fatigue; polysomnography; sleep; functional outcome; serology; PCR; complement activation; classical pathway;

    Abstract : Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), an important central nervous system infection in Europe and Asia, is caused by the TBE virus (TBEV), which is mainly transmitted to humans through tick bites. This thesis studied data from 201 of the 373 patients diagnosed in Region Västra Götaland between 1997 and 2017. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tick-borne encephalitis : clinical and pathogenetic aspects

    Author : Auksė Mickienė; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : tick-borne encephalitis;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to investigate the morbidity associated with tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the acute stage and at long-term follow-up, to identify the possible host risk factors for development of clinical TBE with special reference to the role of the genetic polymorphism, and to investigate neurochemical changes in the brain induced by TBE virus (TBEV) and their possible role on severity of TBE with special reference to endogenous kynurenic acid (KYNA). Paper I: Of 250 consecutively admitted patients with central nervous system (CNS) infections treated during a 1-year period, all 133 patients with TBE participated in the prospective follow-up study.
