1. Fertility, childcare and labour market : dynamics in time and space
Abstract : Paper [I] focuses on the effects of time and space dynamics on the description offertility in Sweden. Fertility is an important determinant of long-term populationgrowth and labour market conditions. The influence of time dynamics inpostponing or accelerating childbearing is assessed by considering two differenteffects of earnings. READ MORE

2. Freshwater methane and carbon dioxide fluxes : Spatio-temporal variability and an integrated assessment of lake and stream emissions in a catchment
Abstract : Freshwater bodies such as lakes and streams release the greenhouse gases methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere. Global freshwater CH4 and CO2 emissions have been estimated to be of a similar magnitude to the global land or ocean carbon sink, and are thus significant components of global carbon budgets. 3. Time, space and control: deep-learning applications to turbulent flows
Abstract : In the present thesis, the application of deep learning and deep reinforcement learning to turbulent-flow simulations is investigated. Deep-learning models are trained to perform temporal and spatial predictions, while deep reinforcement learning is applied to a flow-control problem, namely the reduction of drag in an open channel flow. 4. Disinformative and Uncertain Data in Global Hydrology : Challenges for Modelling and Regionalisation
Abstract : Water is essential for human well-being and healthy ecosystems, but population growth and changes in climate and land-use are putting increased stress on water resources in many regions. To ensure water security, knowledge about the spatiotemporal distribution of these resources is of great importance. READ MORE

5. Where are the people in emergency service planning? : Assessing the geography and equity of access to emergency services in Sweden
Abstract : Providing high-quality health care to everyone who needs it is a central objective of the Swedish healthcare system. One way in which this goal is broadly pursued is by allocating resources that maximize the geographical coverage of ambulances, aimed at reducing ambulance respons times as much as possible, for as many as possible.
