  1. 1. Information geometries in black hole physics

    Author : Narit Pidokrajt; Ingemar Bengtsson; Jorma Louko; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; black holes; thermodynamics; instability; hessian; entropy; ruppeiner geometry; weinhold geometry; information geometry; Theory of relativity; gravitation; Relativitetsteori; gravitation; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : In this thesis we aim to develop new perspectives on the statistical mechanics of black holes using an information geometric approach (Ruppeiner and Weinhold geometry). The Ruppeiner metric is defined as a Hessian matrix on a Gibbs surface, and provides a geometric description of thermodynamic systems in equilibrium. READ MORE

  2. 2. Physics-informed inferences of galaxy clustering with Bayesian forward modelling

    Author : Eleni Tsaprazi; Jens Jasche; Ariel Goobar; Alkistis Pourtsidou; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; large-scale structure; galaxy clustering; supernovae; Bayesian statistics; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we showcase four novel approaches to constraining the relationship between cosmological observables and the large-scale structure. The majority of the energy content of the Universe in the concordance cosmological model remains largely unknown. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigation of Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes in Northern Scandinavia

    Author : Victoria Barabash; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes; middle atmospheric dynamics; ionospheric disturbances; solar radiation; aerosol; MST radar; planetary waves; noctilucent clouds; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; rymdfysik; Space Physics;

    Abstract : This PhD thesis deals with phenomena which are closely related to the unique thermal structure of the polar summer mesosphere, namely Polar Mesosphere Summer Echoes (PMSE). PMSE are strong radar echoes commonly observed by VHF MST radars from thin layers in the 80-90 km altitude interval at high latitudes during summer. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Formation and Physical Behaviour of Exhaled Particles

    Author : Helene Holmgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; breath hold; size distribution; deposition; relative humidity; tidal breathing; exhaled particles; airway closure; film droplet;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles are generated in human airways and leave the body with exhaled air. The particles originate from the respiratory tract and contain non-volatile compoundsthat potentially may be used as biomarkers for various medical conditions. To utilise any information provided by the particles, they must be characterised. READ MORE

  5. 5. Thermophysical Modelling and Mechanical Stability of Cometary Nuclei

    Author : Björn Davidsson; Dina Prialnik; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; Comets; Tidal physics; Light scattering; Radiative transfer; Thermophysics; Gas kinetics; Non-gravitational forces; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Theoretical Astrophysics; teoretisk astrofysik;

    Abstract : Comets are the most primordial and least evolved bodies in the Solar System. As such, they are unique sources of information regarding the early history of the Solar System. However, little is known about cometary nuclei since they are very difficult to observe due to the obscuring coma. READ MORE
