  1. 6. Modelling the middle atmosphere and its sensitivity to climate change

    Author : Andreas Jonsson; Jörg Gumbel; Joanna Haigh; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; middle atmosphere; ozone; carbon dioxide; stratosphere; mesosphere; chemical kinetics; atmospheric tides; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : The Earth's middle atmosphere at about 10-100 km has shown a substantial sensitivity to human activities. First, the ozone layer has been reduced since the the early 1980s due to man-made emissions of halogenated hydrocarbons. READ MORE

  2. 7. Observing Sea Level Using Reflected Global Navigation Satellite System Signals

    Author : Johan Löfgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tide gauge; Global Navigation Satellite Systems; ocean tides; reflected signals; sea-level monitoring;

    Abstract : Sea-level rise due to global warming is predicted to have a large impact on human society, especially for populations living in coastal regions and on islands. It is therefore of great importance to monitor the sea level and to increase the understanding of the local hydrodynamic and meteorological responses to a global sea-level rise. READ MORE

  3. 8. Matrixing Aid : The Rise and Fall of 'Results Initiatives' in Swedish Development Aid

    Author : Janet Vähämäki; Maria Mårtensson; Bengt Jacobsson; Anders Forssell; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Accounting; Management Reforms; Results; Development Aid; Donor Practice; Sida; Reform Cycles; Tides of Reforms; Performance Measurement; Performance Management; företagsekonomi; Business Administration;

    Abstract : Reform ideas, such as results measurement and management, tend to come and go in different ‘tides of reforms’. The purpose of this thesis is to increase our understanding of tides of reforms by identifying and discussing mechanisms that drive the rise, as well as the fall, of management reforms. READ MORE

  4. 9. The impact of mesospheric dynamics and chemistry on key chemical species: 20 years of Odin/SMR satellite observations

    Author : Francesco Grieco; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mesosphere; energetic particle precipitation; H2O; NO; atmospheric solar tides; microwave limb sounding; CO;

    Abstract : Coupling mechanisms between different atmospheric layers are such that changes in middle atmospheric dynamics and composition have an effect on what happens at lower altitudes and on the climate. There is therefore a need to extend climate models to include higher altitudes and to perform measurements of the middle atmosphere. READ MORE

  5. 10. Tidally generated internal waves

    Author : Saeed Falahat; Jonas Nycander; Sonya Legg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tidally generated internal waves in the deep ocean; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification.
