  1. 1. Tight juntion in ovarian surface epithelium and epithelial ovarian tumors

    Author : Yihong Zhu; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : junction; claudin; ovarian surface epithelium; epithelial ovarian tumor; TGF-?1;

    Abstract : Epithelial ovarian cancer originating from ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) is the most lethal type of gynecological cancer among women worldwide. The poor understanding of the cellular and molecular events associated with ovarian carcinogenesis leads to difficulties in early diagnosis and in efficient treatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Human Spiral Ganglion

    Author : Sven Tylstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otorhinolaryngology; human spiral ganglion; ultrastructural morphology; neural interaction; synaptophysin; connexin; membrane specializations; synapse; gap junction; tight junction; Otorhinolaryngologi; Otorhinolaryngology; Otorhinolaryngologi; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Our knowledge of the fine structure of the Human Spiral Ganglion (HSG) is still inadequate and new treatment techniques for deafness using electric stimulation, call for further information and studies on the neuronal elements of the human cochlea. This thesis presents results of analyses of human cochlear tissue and specimens obtained during neurosurgical transpetrosal removal of life-threatening meningeomas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic variation of tight junction structures in intestinal inflammation

    Author : Elisabeth Norén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The epithelial barrier facing the external environment in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is comprised of several components, including the tight junction (TJ) structures observed for the first time in 1963. TJ structures, which are multiprotein complexes composed of transmembrane proteins and a diverse spectrum of intracellular components, create a primary barrier to diffusion of ions, solutes, and water and they concomitantly prevent permeation of pro-inflammatory factors, such as pathogens, toxins, and antigens. 4. 4. Intestinal transplantation. Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Mihai Oltean; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Intestinal preservation; Ischemia-reperfusion injury; Tight junction; FK506; Resistin;

    Abstract : Intestinal preservation-reperfusion injury may result in various degrees of mucosal injury. Interestingly, the preservation injury is similar when using the current preservation solutions, which are given as a intravascular flush. An extensive mucosal injury may ultimately preclude the use of organs that require longer preservation time. READ MORE

  5. 5. In vitro studies on the mechanisms of inhibited thyroidal iodide uptake and destructive thyroiditis as adverse effects of amiodarone and interferon-gamma

    Author : Sofia Tedelind; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : thyroid; amiodarone; interferon-gamma; iodide transport; tight junction; mitochondria; endocytosis;

    Abstract : The clinical use of the potent anti-arrhythmic drug amiodarone is limited due to adverse effects e.g. in the thyroid comprising both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Amiodarone-induced thyroid dysfunction can occur in subjects with normal thyroid glands but also in those with an underlying thyroid abnormality resulting in an aggravation of the condition. READ MORE
