  1. 21. Convergence of Option Rewards

    Author : Robin Lundgren; Dmitrii Silvestrov; Kimmo Eriksson; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Johan Tysk; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introduction and five articles devoted to optimal stopping problems of American type options. In article A, we get general convergence results for the American option rewards for multivariate Markov price processes. These results are used to prove convergence of tree approximations presented in papers A, B, C and E. READ MORE

  2. 22. What Will We Learn? : A Mathematical Treatise of Cultural Evolution

    Author : Pontus Strimling; Kimmo Eriksson; Robert Boyd; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cultural Evolution; Mathematical modeling; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we apply mathematics and formal modeling to study culture from an evolutionary standpoint. Cultural evolution theory is based on the belief that we can increase our understanding of human behavior by studying how culture is created and spread. READ MORE

  3. 23. Fixed points, fractals, iterated function systems and generalized support vector machines

    Author : Xiaomin Qi; Sergei Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; Daniel Andren; Viktor Abramov; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; support vector machine; fixed points; iterated function system; variational inequality; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, fixed point theory is used to construct a fractal type sets and to solve data classification problem. Fixed point method, which is a beautiful mixture of analysis, topology, and geometry has been revealed as a very powerful and important tool in the study of nonlinear phenomena. READ MORE

  4. 24. Optimization of Just-in-Time Sequencing Problems and Supply Chain Logistics

    Author : Gyan Thapa; Sergei Silvestrov; Anatoliy Malyarenko; George Fodor; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Just-in-time; JIT sequencing; apportionment; product rate variation; output rate variation; algorithms; heuristics; supply chain; logistics; queueing; non-linear integer programming; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This dissertation presents a comprehensive and comparative progress in sequencing approaches of mixed-model just-in-time (JIT) sequencing problem together with discrete apportioment problem (DAP). The goal of JIT sequencing problem (JITSP) is to keep the rate of usage of parts as constant as possible along the assembly lines, and the goal of DAP is to divide a given integer number of delegates proportionally among the states or the parties according to their population or votes. 5. 25. Computational Modeling, Parameterization, and Evaluation of the Spread of Diseases

    Author : Robin Marin; Stefan Engblom; Trevelyan J. McKinley; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Parameter estimation; Bayesian modeling; Stochastic epidemiological models; simulation-based inference; approximate bayesian computations; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap;

    Abstract : Computer simulations play a vital role in the modeling of infectious diseases. Different modeling regimes fit specific purposes, from ordinary differential equations to probabilistic formulations. READ MORE
