  1. 16. Numerical Conformal mappings for regions Bounded by Smooth Curves

    Author : Anders Andersson; Börje Nilsson; Joachim Toft; Michael Benedicks; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Schwarz-Christoffel mapping; rounded corners; tangent polygons; outer polygon; zipper algorithm; Schwarz-Christoffelavbildningen; rundade hörn; tangentpolygoner; yttre polygoner; zipper-algoritmer; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : Inom många tillämpningar används konforma avbildningar för att transformera tvådimensionella områden till områden med enklare utseende. Ett exempel på ett sådant område är en kanal av varierande tjocklek begränsad av en kontinuerligt deriverbar kurva. READ MORE

  2. 17. Numerical Conformal Mappings for Waveguides

    Author : Anders Andersson; Börje Nilsson; Joachim Toft; Michael Benedicks; Växjö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; waveguide; building block method; numerical conformal mappings; Schwarz–Christoffel mapping; rounded corners method; approximate curve factors; outer polygon method; boundary curvature; zipper method; geodesic algorithm; acoustic wave scattering; electro-magnetic wave scattering; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Mathematics; Matematik; waveguides;

    Abstract : Acoustic or electro-magnetic scattering in a waveguide with varying direction and cross-section can be re-formulated as a two-dimensional scattering problem, provided that the variations take place in only one dimension at a time. By using the so-called Building Block Method, it is possible to construct the scattering properties of a combination of scatterers when the properties of each scatterer are known. READ MORE

  3. 18. On the causes and effects of specialization : A mathematical approach

    Author : Micael Ehn; Kimmo Eriksson; Johan Lind; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Specialization; Division of labor; matematical model; social stratification; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Mathematics Applied Mathematics; Matematik tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Division of labor and division of knowledge are so important andcommon in society today that it is almost impossible to imagine asociety where everyone knows the same things and perform the sametasks. This would be a society where everyone grows, or gathers, andprepares their own food, makes their own tools, builds their ownhouse, and so on. READ MORE

  4. 19. Selected Topics in Partial Differential Equations

    Author : Mattias Enstedt; Michael Melgaard; William Desmond Evans; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MATHEMATICS; MATEMATIK; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : This Ph.D. thesis consists of five papers and an introduction to the main topics of the thesis. In Paper I we give an abstract criteria for existence of multiple solutions to nonlinear coupled equations involving magnetic Schrödinger operators. READ MORE

  5. 20. Solution to boundary-contact problems of elasticity in mathematical models of the printing-plate contact system for flexographic printing

    Author : Nikolai Kotik; Yury Shestopalov; Stig Larsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary-contact problem; elasticity; integral equation; approximate decomposition; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : Boundary-contact problems (BCPs) are studied within the frames ofclassical mathematical theory of elasticity and plasticityelaborated by Landau, Kupradze, Timoshenko, Goodier, Fichera andmany others on the basis of analysis of two- and three-dimensionalboundary value problems for linear partial differential equations.A great attention is traditionally paid both to theoreticalinvestigations using variational methods and boundary singularintegral equations (Muskhelishvili) and construction of solutionsin the form that admit efficient numerical evaluation (Kupradze).
