  2. 7. On Real-Time Optimization using Extremum Seeking Control and Economic Model Predictive Control : With Applications to Bioreactors and Paper Machines

    Author : Olle Trollberg; Elling Jacobsen; Sigurd Skogestad; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Real-Time Optimization; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : Process optimization is used to improve the utility and the economic performance of industrial processes, and is as such central in most automation strategies. In this thesis, two feedback-based methods for online process optimization are considered: Extremum seeking control (ESC), a classic model-free method used for steady-state optimization which dates back to the early 1900's, and economic model predictive control (EMPC), a more recent method which utilizes a model to dynamically optimize the closed-loop process economics in real time. 3. 8. Improving the functionality of synchronous machines using power electronics

    Author : Fredrik Evestedt; Urban Lundin; C. Johan. D. Abrahamsson; Jon Kjellin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Power electronics; Synchronous machines; Excitation systems; Magnetic thrust bearing; Starting synchronous machines; Split rotor; Rotating electronics; Magnetic fields; Measurement systems; Unbalanced magnetic pull; Harmonics; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : With the advent of modern power electronics there is reason to explore what can be achieved when it is applied to a mature technology like synchronous machines. In this text several concepts will be presented on how it is possible to control forces and how to get better performance out of synchronous machines by using power electronics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Semi-Automating Forestry Machines : Motion Planning, System Integration, and Human-Machine Interaction

    Author : Simon Westerberg; Anton S. Shiriaev; Klas Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Forestry Robotics; Forest Machine Automation; Trajectory Planning; Hydraulic Manipulators; Teleoperation; Virtual Environments; Interaction Methods; Head Tracking;

    Abstract : The process of forest harvesting is highly mechanized in most industrialized countries, with felling and processing of trees performed by technologically advanced forestry machines. However, the maneuvering of the vehicles through the forest as well as the control of the on-board hydraulic boom crane is currently performed through continuous manual operation. READ MORE

  5. 10. Heat-transfer simulations applied to electrical machines

    Author : Kristian Rönnberg; Christophe Duwig; Jens Walther; KTH; []
