  1. 1. Synchronization in Turbo Coded Systems

    Author : Bartosz Mielczarek; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; timing offset; Turbo codes; synchronization; maximum a-posteriori estimation; phase offset; BCJR algorithm.; maximum likelihood estimation;

    Abstract : Turbo codes and their unusual properties have attracted significant attentionof the information theory community. There already exist many articlesand papers devoted to the theory of these codes. This thesis, however,focuses on practical implementation issues of turbo codes, with synchronizationproblems as the main topic. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring models of time processing : effects of training and modality, and the relationship with cognition in rhythmic motor tasks

    Author : Olympia Karampela; Guy Madison; Linus Holm; Fredrik Ullén; Simon Grondin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; timing; motor timing; cogntion; dedicated models; intrinsic models; timing variability;

    Abstract : Timing can be defined as the ability to perceive temporal sequences and regulate timed behaviors. As in other animals, our ability to make accurate time estimations is crucial in order to accomplish several activities. Organisms can process time over a wide range of durations ranging from microseconds to days. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fine motor timing ability - A study of syllable repetition and finger tapping in adults with developmental stuttering or Parkinson's disease compared with healthy adults

    Author : Maria Sundqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; motor timing; synchronization; finger tapping; syllable repetition; Developmental stuttering; Parkinson s disease;

    Abstract : Aim and methods: The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the fine motor timing ability as manifested by speech motor and fine hand motor activity in persons with developmental stuttering or Parkinson’s disease, and in healthy adults. A test method for systematic comparison between speech motor timing and fine hand motor control was developed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Effect of timing training in golf and soccer players : skill, movement organization, and brain activity

    Author : Marius Sommer; Louise Rönnqvist; Charlotte Häger; Nicola Hodges; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Motor timing; rhythmicity; timing training; golf shot; golf swing; kinematics; precision; variability; coordination; movement dynamics; soccer; fMRI; mirror neurons; action observation; cerebellum; perception - action.; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : Background Although trainers and athletes consider ‘good timing skills’ to be critical for optimal sport performance, little is known in regard to how sport-specific skills may benefit from timing training. Thus, assuming that all motor performances are mediated by an internal timing mechanism, enhanced motor timing is expected to have positive effects on both planning and execution of movement performance, and consequently on complex sports actions as golf or soccer. 5. 5. Turbo Codes and Channel Estimation in Wireless Systems

    Author : Bartosz Mielczarek; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; adaptive coding; turbo codes; PSAM; timing offset; BCJR algorithm; synchronization; channel estimation; phase offset; Wiener filters; unequal error protection; OFDM;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on practical implementation issues of turbo codes with imperfectly estimated fading wireless channels and limited code length. Channel estimation can be divided into estimation of static parameters, such as constant timing and phase offset, and dynamic parameters, such as fading channel amplitudes. READ MORE
