11. Applications of organ culture of the mouse inner ear
Abstract : The embryonic mouse inner ear was used as a model with which to study ototoxicity and tissue interactions. The inner ear anlage can be explanted and cultured in vitro from about the 12th gestational day (gd), and will differentiate parallel with the inner ear developing in vivo until a time corresponding to birth (21st gd). 12. The cultured neuroretina: development, survival and transplantation
Abstract : In the cultured immature rat full-thickness neuroretina, massive apoptosis appears in the GCL within hours after explantation, but in the ONL cell death is low. Microglia cells become activated when the retina is kept in culture and are found in the GCL within 24 hours of culture. READ MORE

13. Calcium channel activity and force regulation in smooth muscle: Effects of polyamines and growth stimulation
Abstract : The initial signal for contraction in smooth muscle is an increase in [Ca2+]i. Ca2+ ions can either enter the cytosol from the extracellular medium or be released from intracellular stores. Voltage-operated Ca2+ channels (VOC) play a dominant role in the activation of smooth muscle contraction. READ MORE

14. Studies on Peripheral Nerve Regeneration: Microdispensing, Neurite Guidance and Galectins
Abstract : The present thesis describes development of a microdispenser-based technique to create of protein patterns for neurite guidance. The same technique was also developed to allow direct positioning of dissociated cells, including neurons, on cell culture substrates. Finally the role of galectin-3 and 8 during nerve regeneration was investigated. READ MORE

15. Characterization of secretory mechanisms in lacrimal and salivary glands
Abstract : Dry mouth and dry eyes are multifactorial morbidities that can lead to a severely reduced quality of life. Approximately 20% of the population suffers from ocular or oral dryness. READ MORE
