  1. 6. Celiac disease and Infections

    Author : Anna Röckert Tjernberg; Jonas F. Ludvigsson; Jonas Bonnedahl; Carolina Ciacci; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Celiac disease; small intestinal; infection; respiratory syncytial virus; sepsis; streptococcus pneumoniae; complement; cohort; register; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Background: Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic immune-mediated enteropathy affecting about 1% of the population worldwide. CD is triggered by ingestion of gluten in genetically predisposed individuals but additional factors (e.g. infections) are required for the disease to develop. READ MORE

  2. 7. Structure-dependent charge transfer at the interafce between organic thin films, and metals and metal oxides

    Author : Sareh Ahmadi; Oscar Tjernberg; Guy Le Lay; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoelectric spectroscopy; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; organic semiconductors; phthalocyanine; charge transfer; electronic structure; dye sensitization;

    Abstract : The purpose of the research work, presented in this thesis is to offer a detailed atomic level study of interfaces created by adsorption of organic molecules on metals and metal oxides to point out significant impact of substrate, dye structure as well as different mediators on the charge transfer at these interfaces, which is proven to influence the device performance to a great extent.Adsorption of organic photosensitive molecules on metals and metal-oxides is the main focus of this thesis. 3. 8. Consequences of a non-trivial band-structure topology in solids : Investigations of topological surface and interface states

    Author : Magnus H. Berntsen; Oscar Tjernberg; Philip Hofmann; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy; time-of-flight analyzer; laser based light source; topological insulator; topological crystalline insulator; thin films; surface state; interface state; Bi2Se3; Pb1-xSnxSe;

    Abstract : The development and characterization of experimental setups for angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) and spin- and angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (SARPES) is described. Subsequently, the two techniques are applied to studies of the electronic band structure in topologically non-trivial materials. READ MORE

  4. 9. Laboratory methods for investigation of the immunological orchestra in response to pathogens

    Author : Hanna Carlsson; Ivar Tjernberg; Christina Ekerfelt; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; Jorma Hinkula; Matti Sällberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Borrelia; Influenza; Immunology; Immune response; Cellmediated; Serological; Subclinical; ELISA; Luminex; Proximity extension assay;

    Abstract : Laboratory methods used for investigation of immune response often involve collection of whole blood and analysis of different biomarkers in blood components or generated from pathogen stimulation of whole blood or peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). Methods used to measure biomarkers are for example enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) which measures one biomarker at a time or multiplex assays for example x-unknown, multi-analyte profiling (xMAP) by Luminex or proximity extension assay (PEA), which can measure up to just over 3000 biomarkers at a time. 5. 10. Investigations of Transition Metal Systems : Angle-Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy at Low and High Energy

    Author : Thomas Claesson; Oscar Tjernberg; Kevin Smith; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy; electronic structure; oxides; high-temperature superconductors; Material physics with surface physics; Materialfysik med ytfysik;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis aims at achieving an increased understanding of the electronic structure of materials whose properties are to a large extent governed by transition metals. All studies are based on data from angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy (ARPES) employed on the valence band of the studied systems. READ MORE
