  1. 1. Asymmetric Synthesis of C-Glycosylated Amino Acids : Incorporation in Collagen Glycopeptides and Evaluation in a Model for Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Author : Tomas Gustafsson; Jan Kihlberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Total synthesis; stereoselective synthesis; chiral glycine templates; Evan’s alkylation; asymmetric hydrogenation; alpha-amino acid synthesis; C-glycoside; rheumatoid arthritis; MHC; T cell; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis describes stereoselective syntheses of four amino acids, three of which are C-glycosidic analogues of glycosylated amino acids. The overall goal of the project was to probe the interactions between MHC molecules, glycopeptide antigens and T cell receptors, that are essential for development of collagen induced arthritis. 2. 2. Bacterial thioredoxin systems as potential drug targets in novel antimicrobial therapies

    Author : Tomas N Gustafsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Antimicrobial resistance is a big problem in modern medicine. One of the key components in the combat is the characterization of novel drug targets and the development of new classes of compounds targeting them. READ MORE

  3. 3. Frameworks for task design and technology integration in the mathematics classroom

    Author : Patrik Gustafsson; Andreas Ryve; Per Sund; Tomas Bergqvist; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; mathematical classroom discussion; task design; classroom response system; technology integration; design principle; framework; Didactics; didaktik;

    Abstract : In recent years many teachers and students have begun having good access to digital technology in their classrooms, and in the context of Sweden the majority of secondary schools are known as one-to-one schools, with students having their own computer or tablet. However, the mere presence of technology in the classroom is not a guarantee for improved teaching and learning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Topics in Potential Theory: Quadrature Domains, Balayage and Harmonic Measure

    Author : Tomas Sjödin; Björn Gustafsson; Stephen Gardiner; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical analysis; Quadrature Domain; Balayage; Harmonic measure; Martin boundary; Matematisk analys; Mathematical analysis; Analys;

    Abstract : In this thesis, which consists of five papers (A,B,C,D,E), we are interested in questions related to quadrature domains. Among the problems studied are the possibility of changing the type of measure in a quadrature identity (from complex to real and from real signed to positive), properties of partial balayage, which in a sense can be used to generate quadrature domains, and mother bodies which are closely related to inversion of partial balayage. 5. 5. Respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) : calibration, breathing pattern analysis and external CO2 dead space measurement

    Author : Tomas Strömberg; Gert Nilsson; Per M. Gustafsson; Steffen Groth; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) is an important tool for ventilatory monitoring in research studies because it has minimal influence on the spontaneous breathing pattern and because the rib cage and abdominal contributions to the breaths are measured. RIP measures changes in rib cage and abdominal cross-sectional areas which are translated into lung volume estimates via RIP calibration against e. READ MORE
