21. Abelian and non-abelian quantum Hall hierarchies
Abstract : A core tenet of condensed matter physics has been that different phases of matter can be classified according to Landau's symmetry breaking paradigm. It has become clear, however, that phases of matter exist that are not distinguished by symmetry, but rather by topology. READ MORE

22. A classifying algebra for CFT boundary conditions
Abstract : Conformal field theories (CFT) constitute an interesting class of twodimensionalquantum field theories, with applications in string theoryas well as condensed matter physics. The symmetries of a CFT can beencoded in the mathematical structure of a conformal vertex algebra. READ MORE

23. On the Properties of Some Strongly Correlated Systems - Analytical and Numerical Studies
Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to analytical and numerical studiesof a few models of strongly correlated systems and thedevelopment of techniques for such studies. The common name"strongly correlated" refers to systems in which theinteractions (correlations) between the constituent particleslead to nontrivial properties, such as various types ofmagnetism, superconductivity, and exotic phases. 24. Magnetic solotronics near the surface of a semiconductor and a topological insulator
Abstract : Technology where a solitary dopant acts as the active component of an opto-electronic device is an emerging field known as solotronics, and bears the promise to revolutionize the way in which information is stored, processed and transmitted. Magnetic doped semiconductors and in particular (Ga, Mn)As, the archetype of dilute magnetic semiconductors, and topological insulators (TIs), a new phase of quantum matter with unconventional characteristics, are two classes of quantum materials that have the potential to advance spin-electronics technology. 25. Interaction and disorder in helical conductors
Abstract : Different effects from electron-electron interactions and disorder in helical and quasi-helical conductors are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. The combined effects of Rashba spin-orbit interaction and magnetic Kondo-type impurities in the helical edge liquids of quantum spin Hall insulators, are investigated. READ MORE
