  1. 1. Thioredoxin-1 in Alzheimer disease

    Author : Torbjörn Persson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Oxidative stress is one of the earliest signs in Alzheimer Disease (AD) brain. In order to protect themselves against oxidative stress, neurons use antioxidants as a defense mechanism. Such an antioxidant is Thioredoxin-1 (Trx1). Previous studies have shown that the levels of Trx1 are reduced in the brains of AD patients. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Origin and Distributions of the Inclusions in Production-scale ESR and PESR Remelted Ingots and Materials from Different Ingot Sizes and Solidification Structures

    Author : Eva Sjöqvist Persson; Pär Jönsson; Torbjörn Carlberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : The study was carried out with the aim to evaluate the origin, morphology, and distribution of the non-metallic inclusions (NMI) in electro-slag remelted (ESR) steels and in electro-slag remelted steels using a pressured controlled inert atmosphere (PESR). In addition to the NMI studies, the solidification structure in different ingot sizes were studied in order to define the influence of the solidification on the NMI characteristics. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of aluminum in environmental systems using X-ray absorption and vibrational spectroscopy : The importance of organic matter

    Author : Kristoffer Hagvall; Torbjörn Karlsson; Per Persson; Lars Lövgren; Dan Berggren Kleja; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The fate and behavior of many metals in the environment are highly dependent on interactions with natural organic matter (NOM), which is abundant in most soils and surface waters. The complexation with NOM can influence the speciation of the metals by affecting their hydrolysis and solubility. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Role of Chlamydia pneumoniae-induced Platelet Activation in Cardiovascular Disease : In vitro and In vivo studies

    Author : Hanna Kälvegren; Torbjörn Bengtsson; Arina Richter; Erik Kihlström; Kenneth Persson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chlamydia pneumoniae; Platelet; atherosclerosis; Infection; LDL-oxidation; Percutaneous coronary intervention; Cardiovascular disease; Serotonin; Reactive oxygen species production; Pharmacology; Farmakologi;

    Abstract : The common risk factors for atherosclerosis, such as obesity, high cholesterol levels, sedentary lifestyle, diabetes and high alcohol intake, only explain approximately 50% of cardiovascular disease events. It is thereby important to identify new mechanisms that can stimulate the process of atherosclerosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aspects on Image Quality in Radiologic Evaluation of the Urinary Tract

    Author : Margareta Lundin; Anders Persson; Torbjörn Andersson; Håkan Geijer; Anders Magnuson; Jan Persliden; Anders Magnusson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The focus of this document is on image quality as one of the factors fundamental for the diagnostic process. With the rising number of procedures and the trend towards more complicated examinations, urinary tract investigations was chosen in this work as a good clinical model for evaluation of the factors influencing image quality and of the ways of evaluating image quality.
