  1. 21. Stormwater bioretention: Pollutant occurrence and accumulation in filter materials and forebays

    Author : Robert Furén; Godecke-Tobias Blecken; Jes Vollertsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioretention; Biofilter; storwater; quality; treatment; filter material; forebay; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering; Centrumbildning - Centrum för dagvattenhantering DRIZZLE ; Centre - Centre for Stormwater Management DRIZZLE ;

    Abstract : Urban areas are affected by anthropogenic activities and produce pollutants that are transported to recipients and receiving waters during precipitation. Untreated stormwater runoff is a main driver of environmental degradation, and the interest in stormwater quality treatment has increased with the awareness of stormwater pollution. READ MORE

  2. 22. Strategic nitrogen management in stockless organic cropping systems : redistribution of residual biomass for improved energy and nitrogen balance

    Author : Tora Råberg; Sweden SLU; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; bioenergy; biomass management; crop rotation; ecological intensification; green manure; life cycle assessment; nitrogen cycling; organic agriculture; soil incubation; stockless cropping systems;

    Abstract : Agriculture faces the challenge of producing high yields to feed a growing world population, while simultaneously addressing environmental problems such as eutrophication, emissions of greenhouse gases, loss of biodiversity and soil degradation. Organic farming can be part of the solution, as it promotes biodiversity, uses less energy for fertiliser production and often has higher inputs of organic matter to soil than conventional farming. 3. 23. Energy Quality Management for New Building Clusters and Districts

    Author : Hai Lu; Martinac Ivo; Hasan Ala; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The level of concern regarding the total energy consumption in new building clusters and urban districts (BCDs) has increased recently. Rising living standards have led to a significant increase in building energy consumption over the past few decades. A great potential for energy savings exists through energy quality management (EQM) for new BCDs. READ MORE

  4. 24. Towards sustainable solid waste management in Jordan

    Author : Mohammad Aljaradin; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Solid Waste Management; Public Participation; Recycling; Landfilling; Jordan;

    Abstract : Jordan is a country with a growing population that is undergoing rapid modernization. The increased volume of solid waste and associated logistical difficulties, the steady growth in the cost of waste management and the risk to human health are sources of concern. READ MORE

  5. 25. An inductive approach to the modeling of lake water quality in dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes

    Author : Tomas K. E. Thierfelder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap; Sedimentology; sedimentologi;

    Abstract : To explore the interaction between elements of the watershed and lake water quality, a database large enough to approximate the generic population of dimictic, glacial/boreal lakes is assembled and analyzed with multivariate statistical methods in an inductive top-down approach. Utilizing the analytical capabilities of geographical information systems, the spatially distributed characteristics of land cover, soil and bedrock elements are identified and parameterized with respect to element morphology and hydrology.
