  1. 1. Studies to Avoid Decreased Efficiency in Multiple Stage Biological Wastewater Treatment Plants: Concerning Forests Industry Effluents

    Author : Maria Sandberg; Ola Holby; Erik Särner; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wastewater treatment; Forest industry; Black liquor; MultiBio; Toxic effluents; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Målet med den här studien är att förhindra effektivitetssänkningar i moderna biologiska reningsanläggningar för skogsindustriella avloppsvatten. Biologiska processer är vanligtvis effektiva när det gäller att reducera lättnedbrytbart organiskt material. Eftersom den utgörs av levande mikroorganismer (MO) är tekniken känslig. READ MORE

  2. 2. Algal-Bacterial Photobioreactors for the Degradation of Toxic Organic Pollutants

    Author : Raul Munoz; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; symbiosis.; nutrient removal; heavy metals removal; Algal-bacterial systems photobioreactors; toxic organic pollutants;

    Abstract : The aerobic biodegradation of toxic organic volatile contaminants is always limited by the low aqueous solubility of O2. Therefore, intensive bubbling or surface aeration is required to supply the bacterial community with sufficient O2 to carry out pollutant mineralization. This can cause the hazardous volatilization of toxic volatile contaminants. READ MORE

  3. 3. Solar-based physicochemical-biological processes for the treatment of toxic and recalcitrant effluents

    Author : Tamer Essam; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; combined process; biodegradaiton; phenolics; phenol; Advanced Oxidation Processes; Photodegradation; photolysis;

    Abstract : Wastewater treatment is a worldwide necessity that is even more crucial to countries deprived from abundant fresh water sources or unable to afford advanced and costly processes. With this perspective, this thesis was conducted within an Egyptian-Swedish research collaboration that aimed to develop solar-based (as free renewable energy source available locally) process for hazardous wastewater treatment. 4. 4. Emissions from Fires Consequences for Human Safety and the Environment

    Author : Per Blomqvist; Avdelningen för Brandteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; kontroll av utsläpp; pollution control; Miljöteknik; Environmental technology; Byggnadsteknik; Building construction; incapacitation; CFD; simulations; emissions; particles; dioxin; PAH; gases; quantitative analysis; fire effluents; chemical characterisation; large-scale experiments;

    Abstract : Accidental fires represent a risk for people from the heat and fire effluents produced. It is clear from fire statistics that it is, in fact, the toxic gases that kill and injure many fire victims. Further, there are a number of compounds that are readily produced in fires, which have important sublethal effects on humans. READ MORE

  5. 5. Bioremediation of Toxic Metals for Protecting Human Health and the Ecosystem

    Author : Aminur Rahman; Abul Mandal; Jana Jass; Björn Olsson; Pawel Kaszycki; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heavy Metals; Pollution; Accumulation; Remediation; Human Health; Bacteria; Genome Sequencing; de novo Assembly; Gene Prediction; Biology; Biologi; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Heavy metal pollutants, discharged into the ecosystem as waste by anthropogenic activities, contaminate drinking water for millions of people and animals in many regions of the world. Long term exposure to these metals, leads to several lethal diseases like cancer, keratosis, gangrene, diabetes, cardio- vascular disorders, etc. READ MORE
