  1. 11. Direct and indirect mechanisms for aryl hydrocarbon receptor activation mediated by 6-formylindolo[3,2-b]carbazole

    Author : Emma Wincent; Ulf Rannug; Agneta Rannug; Christopher Bradfield; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi; toxikologisk genetik; Genetic Toxicology;

    Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is mostly recognized for mediating the adverse effects of dioxins. In addition, endogenous activation of the AhR seems to have important biological functions.  Several studies have demonstrated an activation of the receptor when no exogenous ligand was added. 2. 12. Proteomic Characterization of Induced Developmental Neurotoxicity

    Author : Henrik Alm; Lennart Dencker; R Stuart Cobb; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Proteomics; Brain Development; Neurotoxicity; 2D-DIGE; Brain Growth Spurt; Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether; Neonatal; Striatum; Hippocampus; Cerebral Cortex; Parkinsonism; Dyskinesia; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : The developing brain goes through a number of developmental periods during which it displays an increased sensitivity to exogenous disturbances. On such period is the so called “Brain growth spurt” (BGS) which in humans takes place starting from the third trimester of pregnancy and throughout the first few years of life. READ MORE

  3. 13. Vasodilator actions of EDHF and anandamide

    Author : David Andersson; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; vanilloid receptors; afferent neurons; anandamide; cannabinoids; potassium channels; hyperpolarization; vasodilation; Vascular endothelium; arteries; airways; Pharmacological sciences; pharmacognosy; pharmacy; toxicology; Farmakologi; farmakognosi; farmaci; toxikologi;

    Abstract : Vasodilator responses to endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) and anandamide in isolated arteries were investigated. A combination of the potassium channel blockers charybdotoxin and apamin inhibits EDHF-mediated relaxations. READ MORE

    Abstract : Today, assessment of the health of coastal waters is recognized as being important for both the conservation of nature and well-being of humans. Anthropogenic pollution has been the focus of extensive research for some time and a variety of programs for the monitoring and assessment of environmental pollution have been developed. READ MORE

  5. 15. In Vitro Studies of Adrenocorticolytic DDT Metabolites, with Special Focus on 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE

    Author : Vendela Asp; Ingvar Brandt; Ulrika Bergström; Olle Söder; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicity; 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE; CYP; adrenal cortex; metabolic activation; steroid hormones; Y-1; H295R; mitotane; adrenocortical carcinoma; Toxicology; Toxikologi; Biologi med inriktning mot ekotoxikologi; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology;

    Abstract : The DDT metabolite 3-methylsulfonyl-DDE (3-MeSO2-DDE) is bioactivated by cytochrome P450 11B1 (CYP11B1) in the adrenal cortex of mice and forms irreversibly bound protein adducts, reduces glucocorticoid secretion, and induces cell death selectively in cortisol-producing adrenocortical cells. 3-MeSO2-DDE has therefore been proposed as a lead compound for an improved adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) therapy.
