    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transcriptome; RNA-seq; DNA sequencing; gene expression profiling; non-coding RNA; small RNA; Functional genomics; Funktionsgenomik; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik; Genetics; Genetik; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is about the use of massive DNA sequencing to investigate the transcriptome. During recent decades, several studies have made it clear that the transcriptome comprises a more complex set of biochemical machinery than was previously believed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Interpreting the human transcriptome

    Author : Beata Werne Solnestam; Joakim Lundeberg; Piero Carninci; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transcriptome; RNA sequencing; high-throughput sequencing; gene expression profiling; multiplex amplification; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : The human body is made of billions of cells and nearly all have the same genome. However, there is a high diversity of cells, resulted from what part of the genome the cells use, i.e. which RNA molecules are expressed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mining the transcriptome - methods and applications

    Author : Valtteri Wirta; Joakim Lundeberg; John Quackenbush; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transcriptome; gene expression profiling; EST; microarray; RNA amplification; stem cells; neurosphere; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik;

    Abstract : Regulation of gene expression occupies a central role in the control of the flow of genetic information from genes to proteins. Regulatory events on multiple levels ensure that the majority of the genes are expressed under controlled circumstances to yield temporally controlled, cell and tissue-specific expression patterns. 4. 4. Diversifying the transcriptome : Adenosine-to-inosine RNA editing in the mammalian brain

    Author : Albin Widmark; Neus Visa; Joshua Rosenthal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RNA editing; ADAR; microRNA; brain development; neuron; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Metazoan transcriptomes are extensively modified by adenosine-to-inosine (A-to-I) RNA editing, a process by which adenosines within double-stranded RNA are enzymatically deaminated to form inosines. Inosines has base-pairing characteristics similar to guanosine, meaning that A-to-I RNA editing results in functional rewriting of transcripts, affecting many biological processes. READ MORE

  5. 5. Genome and Transcriptome Comparisons between Human and Chimpanzee

    Author : Anna Wetterbom; Ulf Gyllensten; Lucia Cavelier; Tomas Bergström; Evan Eichler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; chimpanzee; genome; transcriptome; comparative studies; exon arrays; next-generation sequencing; premature termination codon; alternative splicing; primate evolution; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; Bioinformatik; Bioinformatics;

    Abstract : The chimpanzee is humankind’s closest living relative and the two species diverged ~6 million years ago. Comparative studies of the human and chimpanzee genomes and transcriptomes are of great interest to understand the molecular mechanisms of speciation and the development of species-specific traits.
