  1. 1. Transesophageal Echocardiography in Patients Undergoing Elective Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery

    Author : Ingrid Palmgren; Russell Anderson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; transesophageal echocardiography; low-dose dobutamine; viability; coronary artery bypass; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has become a useful tool in monitoring the heart in patients during open-heart surgery. This study was undertaken to evaluate whether it is feasible to use TEE to assess left ventricular myocardial viability in anesthetized patients scheduled for coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). 2. 2. The Role of Transesophageal Echocardiography in Clinical Decision-Making in Patients with Stroke or Atrial Fibrillation

    Author : Anders Roijer; Kardiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; stroke; cardioversion; Transesophageal echocardiography; embolic sources; atrial fibrillation;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the clinical use of transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients with stroke or atrial fibrillation. Subjects were examined with echocardiography and sonography of the carotid artery. A control group of randomly selected volunteers without cerebrovascular disease was compared to patients with ischemic stroke. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ultrasound evaluation of atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular sources of cerebral embolism

    Author : Robert Wetterholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : stroke; atherosclerosis; aorta; echocardiography; ultrasound; IMT; MES; WHHL;

    Abstract : The search for embolic sources has high priority in patients presenting with suspected cerebral embolism. Non-invasive cardiovascular ultrasound is frequently used to reveal the presence of carotid stenosis and cardiac disorders with embolic potential. READ MORE

  4. 4. New Intraoperative Techniques to Improve Advanced Aortic Root Surgery

    Author : Faleh Alrashidi; Thoraxkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Modified Ross Operation; Aortic Root surgery; Microemboli signals MES ; Transcranial Doppler TCD ; Acute plateletphersis APP ; Transesophageal echocardiography TEE ; de-airing;

    Abstract : Study I: Thirteen patients underwent a modified Ross operation in which the free-standing pulmonary autograft was supported externally by a Dacron vascular prosthetic jacket (DVPJ). The tailor-made DVPJ prevented dilatation of the neo-aortic root significantly following a median follow-up of 47 months compared to a cohort of l3 matched patients undergoing conventional Ross operation. 5. 5. Carbon dioxide de-airing in cardiac surgery

    Author : Peter Svenarud; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Carbon dioxide; De-airing; Air embolism; Cardiac surgery; Insufflation device; Microemboli; Transesophageal echocardiography;

    Abstract : Background: The risks connected with the presence of air microemboli in open-heart surgery, have recently been emphasized by reports that their number is correlated with the degree of postoperative neuropsychological disorder. Insufflation of carbon dioxide (C02) into the chest wound is used in open-heart surgery to de-air the heart and great vessels. READ MORE
