1. Maturation of Clay Seals in Deep Bore Holes for Disposal of Radioactive waste : Theory and Experiments
Abstract : KBS-3 and very deep borehole (VDH) concepts are two major types of long-term geologicaldisposal methods for high-level radioactive waste (HLW) isolating from the biosphere. TheKBS-3V concept for isolating the HLW at the depth of 400-500 m, is the officially proposedoption in Sweden and has been the subject of considerable research in the past few decades, while the VDH concept was considered as an option in the 1950s but later became discouragedbecause of insufficient experience in drilling technology. 2. Transient Response of Grounding Systems Caused by Lightning: Modelling and Experiments
Abstract : In order to achieve better lightning protection and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements, the needs for a proper grounding system and the knowledge of its transient behaviour become crucial. The present work is focused towards developing engineering models for transient analysis of grounding system with sufficient accuracy and simplicity for lightning studies. READ MORE

3. Contributions to the use of designed experiments in continuous processes : a study of blast furnace experiments
Abstract : Design of Experiments (DoE) contains techniques, such as factorial designs, that help experimenters maximize the information output from conducted experiments and minimize the amount of experimental work required to reach statistically significant results. The use of DoE in industrial processes is frequently and thoroughly described in literature. READ MORE

4. Finite Element Modelling of Fluid-Structure Interaction
Abstract : The dynamic interaction between non-viscid, compressible fluid and an elastic structure is studied. Finte element formulations, using the weighted residual method, are derived. Different primary variables in the fluid domain are used and different source functions are considered. READ MORE

5. On Concurrent Error Detection and Error Propagation
Abstract : This thesis addresses three important steps in the selection of error detection mechanisms for microprocessors: (i) the design and evaluation of error detection mechanisms, (ii) the study of microprocessor error behavior and propagation and (iii) the design and use of error models. The first part of the thesis evaluates four error detection methods with respect to para- meters such as error detection coverage and performance loss, while the second and third parts focus on determining the error patterns most likely to occur in a computer system when different types of faults are present and how to incorporate those error patterns into error models.
