  1. 1. Resistivity and the solid-to-liquid transition in high-temperature superconductors

    Author : Beatriz Espinosa Arronte; Magnus Andersson; Charles Simon; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; high-temperature superconductors; vortex dynamics; vortex solid-to-liquid transition; critical scaling; glass transition; Bose glass; heavy-ion irradiation; YBCO; Tl2Ba2CaCu2O8 d; oxygen deficiency.; Condensed matter physics; Kondenserade materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In high-temperature superconductors a large region of the magnetic phase diagram is occupied by a vortex phase that displays a number of exciting phenomena. At low temperatures, vortices form a truly superconducting solid phase which at high temperatures turns into a dissipative vortex liquid. READ MORE

  2. 2. Direct and indirect magnetocaloric properties of first- and second-order phase transition materials

    Author : Sagar Ghorai; Peter Svedlindh; Martin Sahlberg; Gabriella Andersson; Ekkes Brück; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Magnetocaloric effect; Adiabatic temperature change; Direct measurement of magnetocaloric effect; Griffiths phase; Magneto-elastic transition; Magneto-structural transition; Second-order magnetic phase transition; First-order magnetic phase transition; Isothermal magnetic entropy change; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The energy-efficient and environmentally friendly alternative cooling technology based on the magnetocaloric effect (MCE) is discussed in this thesis. The thesis has two major parts, one devoted to material characterization and the other to instrument development. READ MORE

  3. 3. Corrosion of High-Temperature Alloys in Molten Salts

    Author : Esraa Hamdy Mohamedin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thermal energy storage; Pre-oxidation; Carburisation; Molten salts; Phase transition; High-temperature corrosion; Alumina-forming alloys; Alkali transition metalates; Alkali aluminate; Chromia-forming alloys; Alumina; Concentrated solar power;

    Abstract : Concentrated solar power (CSP) is an interesting technology that involves storing solar energy in the form of heat and subsequently converting it into electricity. The third-generation (Gen3) CSP plants aim to operate at temperatures >700°C, necessitating the deployment of new heat storage materials that can withstand such high operating temperatures. 4. 4. Effect of water on the glass transition and properties of solid-state pharmaceutical formulations

    Author : Ekaterina Bogdanova; Vitaly Kocherbitov; Thomas Rades; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : glass transition; glass transition temperature; relaxation; sucrose; trehalose; maltodextrin; lysozyme; unfolding; hydration; solid-stae; sorption calorimetry; Health and society; Hälsa och samhälle;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to increase our knowledge of the glassy state and the glass transition phenomenon and to evaluate the effect of water on the glassy state. To accomplish this, investigations were focused on the amorphous sucrose-water (paper I, II, III), trehalose-water (paper I), maltodextrin-water (paper I), and lysozyme-sucrose-water (paper IV) systems. 5. 5. Low-temperature deposition of epitaxial transition metal carbide films and superlattices using C60 as carbon source

    Author : Hans Högberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry; fullerene; transition metals; carbides; low-temperature epitaxy; superlattices; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The transition metal carbides are chemical compounds with a unique set of propertiesused in many thin film applications. In this work, thin films of group 4-5 transitionmetal carbides and superlattices were deposited at low temperatures by simultaneousevaporation of C60 using either metal e-beam evaporation or d.c. magnetron sputtering.
