  1. 1. Structural and Genetic Studies of Translation in Escherichia coli

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för genetik, mikrobiologi och toxikologi

    Author : Qing Zhao; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; electron tomography; ribosome; 30S subunit; 50S subunit; rifampicin; Escherichia coli; Translation initiation; Initiation codon; Downstream Region DR ; MEDICINE Microbiology; immunology; infectious diseases; MEDICIN Mikrobiologi; immunologi; infektionssjukdomar;

    Abstract : Ribosomes are the universal ribonucleoprotein organelles that translate the genetic message from mRNA to protein. In prokaryotes, the ribosomal subunits are 30S and 50S subunit, which bind together during the translation process forming 70S ribosome. READ MORE

  2. 2. Studies on Translation Initiation and trans-Translation

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Genetics, Microbiology and Toxicology,Stockholm university

    Author : Serhiy Surkov; Stockholms universitet.; [2010]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; ribosome; IF1; tmRNA; trans-translaton; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Cell and molecular biology Molecular biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Cell- och molekylärbiologi Molekylärbiologi; Molecular Genetics; molekylärgenetik;

    Abstract :  Translation initiation factor 1 (IF1) is an essential bacterial protein, without any clearly defined function in translation initiation. Same point mutants in this protein exhibit cold-sensitivity. In addition, a sequence specific increase in test protein expression has been observed for these mutants. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on translation initiation and gene expression in Escherichia coli

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för genetik, mikrobiologi och toxikologi

    Author : Ernesto I. Gonzalez de Valdivia; Stockholms universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Downstream region; NGG codons; abortive translation; drop-off; Shine-Dalgarno sequence; gene expression and Escherichia coli;

    Abstract : In prokaryotes, several mRNA sequences surrounding the initiation codon have been found to influence the translation process; these include the downstream region and its codon context, the Shine-Dalgarno sequence and the S1 ribosomal protein-binding site. In this thesis, the purpose has been to study the role of the downstream region and Shine-Dalgarno-like sequences on early translation elongation and gene expression in Escherichia coli. READ MORE

  4. 4. Role of the 3'UTR in translation and stability of HCV and HPV mRNAs

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Lisa Wiklund; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Hepatitis C virus; Human Papillomavirus; 3’ untranslated region; AU-rich sequence; mRNA stability; translation; Biokemi; MEDICINE Chemistry Biochemistry; MEDICIN Kemi Biokemi; Medical Virology; medicinsk virologi;

    Abstract : Virus mRNAs can be divided into functional regions. The focus of this thesis will be to investigate the function of one of these regions, the 3’ untranslated region (UTR). The 3’UTR of HCV contains a U-rich element and the late 3’UTR of HPV-1 contains an AU-rich element. READ MORE

  5. 5. Ribosome standby sites and other structural aspects of translation initiation regions in Escherichia coli

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Maaike M. Sterk; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome standby sites; translation initiation; mRNA structure; bacteria;

    Abstract : Translation initiation, which is rate-limiting in protein synthesis, is often the step at which regulation occurs. Here, we investigated several mechanisms of translation initiation in Escherichia coli, including their control. READ MORE
