  1. 21. Understanding Neural Machine Translation : An investigation into linguistic phenomena and attention mechanisms

    Author : Gongbo Tang; Joakim Nivre; Rico Sennrich; Philipp Koehn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neural machine translation; Linguistic phenomena; Ambiguity; Long-range dependency; Morphology; Negation; Attention mechanisms; Interpretation; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I explore neural machine translation (NMT) models via targeted investigation of various linguistic phenomena and thorough exploration of the internal structure of NMT models, in particular the attention mechanism. With respect to linguistic phenomena, I explore the ability of NMT models to translate ambiguous words, to learn long-range dependencies, to learn morphology, and to translate negation—linguistic phenomena that have been challenging for the older paradigm of statistical machine translation. 2. 22. Studies on Translation Initiation and Termination in Escherichia coli

    Author : Georgina Ibrahim Isak; Leif Isaksson; Suparna Sanyal; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Escherichia coli; translation; ribosome; IF1; RF1; kasugamycin; tRNA; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Abstract : Translation initiation factor 1 (IF1) has been shown to be an RNA chaperone. In order to find functional interactions that IF1 may have with rRNA, we have isolated second-site suppressors of a cold-sensitive IF1 mutant. READ MORE

  3. 23. The Taming of a Viking : August Strindberg, Translation and Post-Victorian Censorship

    Author : Lars Liljegren; Carin Franzén; Lars-Håkan Svensson; Cecilia Alvstad; Dirk Delabastita; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; August Strindberg; translation studies; descriptive translation studies; imagology; multiple translatorship; reception theory; polysystem theory; post-Victorian censorship; habitus; panopticon.; August Strindberg; translation studies; descriptive translation studies; imagologi; multiple translatorship; receptionsteori; polysystemteori; post-victoriansk censur; habitus; panopticon.;

    Abstract : This dissertation studies August Strindberg’s two-volume collection of short stories, Giftas (1884, 1886) and its first English translation, Ellie Schleussner’s Married (1913). The purpose is to demonstrate that Married deviates from the original in many ways, primarily on the very aspects that were generally associated with the work. READ MORE

  4. 24. Study on the Function of Translation Initiation Factor IF1

    Author : Victor Croitoru; Leif A. Isaksson; Kim Kusk Mortensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : translation; initiation factor IF1; mutagenesis; A-site; RNA chaperone; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Initiation is the first step in protein biosynthesis representing a fundamental event in cell life which determines fidelity, efficiency and regulation of gene expression. In addition to the ribosome and mRNA, three protein factors IF1, IF2 and IF3 are involved in the initiation of translation in prokaryotes. READ MORE

  5. 25. Jeremiah: A Translation and Commentary on Jeremiah in Codex Vaticamus

    Author : Georg Walser; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Bible; Old Testament; Prophets; Jeremiah; Septuagint; translation; philology; Codex Vaticanus;

    Abstract : This study investigates the Greek text of Jeremiah as found in the famous Vatican manuscript Codex Vaticanus 1209. It is the first major commentary to focus on the text of LXX Jeremiah in any modern language. READ MORE
