  1. 6. Adaptive Evolution of the Bacterial Translation Machinery

    Author : Arindam De Tarafder; Suparna Sanyal; Michael Y. Pavlov; Ruben L. Jr. Gonzalez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ribosome; Translation; Translation machinery; Elongation; Evolution; RNA world; Cold bacteria; Molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Life Sciences;

    Abstract : The process of protein synthesis via translation is of paramount importance for the existence of life on Earth. The bacterial translation machinery has embraced more than 3.5 billion years of molecular evolution to adapt and function efficiently under the provided physiological conditions. READ MORE

  2. 7. Exploring organizational translation : A case study of changes toward Lean Production

    Author : Jostein Langstrand; Mattias Elg; Bo Bergman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organizational change; Lean Production; Organizational translation; Organisatorisk förändring; lean; organisatorisk översättning;

    Abstract : Lean Production has received massive attention during recent years, and many organizations attempt to introduce it with an ambition to reach the radical improvement effects that are promised in the popular management literature. However, introducing a management concept can be a very challenging task, and research has shown that the majority of such initiatives fail. READ MORE

  3. 8. Discourse in Statistical Machine Translation

    Author : Christian Hardmeier; Joakim Nivre; Jörg Tiedemann; Marcello Federico; Lluís Màrquez; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistical machine translation; Discourse-level machine translation; Document decoding; Local search; Pronominal anaphora; Pronoun translation; Neural networks; Computational Linguistics; Datorlingvistik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the technical and linguistic aspects of discourse-level processing in phrase-based statistical machine translation (SMT). Connected texts can have complex text-level linguistic dependencies across sentences that must be preserved in translation. However, the models and algorithms of SMT are pervaded by locality assumptions. READ MORE

  4. 9. Finding the unknowns in trans-translation

    Author : Natalia Ivanova; Måns Ehrenberg; Nenad Ban; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; trans-translation; tmRNA; SmpB; kinetics; footprinting; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Ribosomes stalled on problematic mRNAs can be rescued by a mechanism called trans-translation. This mechanism employs a dual transfer-messenger RNA molecule (tmRNA) together with a helper protein (SmpB). In this work we have used an in vitro translation system with pure components to further clarify the roles of tmRNA and SmpB in trans-translation. READ MORE

  5. 10. Tradition and Translation : Maciej Stryjkowski's Polish Chronicle in Seventeenth-Century Russian Manuscripts

    Author : Christine Watson; Ulla Birgegård; Ingrid Maier; Michael Moser; Uppsala universitet; []
