    Abstract : The waiting list for lung transplantations world-wide is steadily growing. So, the use of lungs from non-heart-beating donors (NHBD) needs to be addressed. Hence, the aim of this thesis was to evaluate, in realistic animal models, the new donor organ concept: NHBD transplantation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tissue Factor in Transplantation -aspects on expression and inhibition

    Author : Cecilia Österholm; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nephrotoxicity; tissue factor; transplantation; ischemia-reperfusion injury; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Immunology; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; extracellular fluids; traumatology; Kirurgi; Urology; nephrology; Urologi; nefrologi; Surgery; orthopaedics; ortopedi; traumatologi; Haematology; chronic rejection;

    Abstract : Organ transplantation provides a treatment of end-stage disease primarily in the kidney, liver and heart. The immunosuppressive treatment regimens of today efficiently prevent early acute rejection; however the long-term survival has not improved to the same extent. READ MORE

    Abstract : Islet transplantation has found its niche in diabetes treatment. It has contributed to a better quality of life and better glycemic control of patients with diabetes suffering from severe hypoglycemia that are not eligible for vascularized pancreas transplantation. Islet isolation is a technically challenging procedure. READ MORE

  5. 5. Blood-Graft Interactions: With special reference to cellular immune-reactivity in vascular and endovascular surgery

    Abstract : The expression of surface adhesion molecules on white blood cells (WBC) and platelets, and the release of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-a) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) after incubation with expanded-polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE)- or woven Dacron grafts was determined. Both graft-materials induced alteration of the WBC adhesion molecule receptor and caused release of TNF-a and IL-6, higher for woven Dacron as compared to ePTFE. READ MORE
